Approval of April Meeting Minutes: The minutes of the April 18, 2018 meeting were reviewed, and minor edits were made. Motion: Adopt April meeting minutes with corrections. Moved: Ms. Oppelt Second: Mr. Beavers Aye: Unanimous Nay: 0 Abstain: 0 2. Public Works Department Report: Ms. Alexander shared the following highlights: • All 30 replacement trees were planted as well as 10 shrubs. • The Tree Canopy Assessment project was awarded to SavATree and the contract is currently in the process of being signed to move forward. • The Food Waste diversion presentation by the University of Maryland Environmental Science and Policy student’s on the Capstone project occurred on May 9th at City Hall. Their results were the backyard compost method for food waste is the least costly and curbside pickup is the costliest. • Summer annuals were delivered and are currently being planted. • There are two TCEP applications submitted from the Fall and the trees have been planted. Funding is still available if anyone is interested. • Received new shipment of yard waste carts. • Compost and mulch still available for sale. • The Boy Scout troops will be planting summer annuals at the Veteran’s Memorial on Saturday May 19th. • Plant material was ordered for the volunteer group in Calvert Hills for planters located in the Hike and Bike Trail. 3. Planning Report: Mr. Beavers shared the following highlights: • Celebrated 2nd year of M-bike share system. 1  • New informational kiosk will be installed on the Trolley Trail. • The City Council presentation on the Rhode Island Avenue bike lane has been to keep the bike lanes in the portion of the road and not use the service roads. • Calvert Hills community garden may be moving forward soon. 4. CBE Report: Ms. Oppelt shared the following highlights: • Ms. Oppelt to write a pet waste blurb for the Municipal Scene and NextDoor. • Upcoming Walk and Talk on the permaculture trail. • Plan to expand workshop on plastic straws to include all plastic material. • Will revisit the letter to the Council on having a garden fence. • Rain barrel event still on schedule in July. • CBE wrote a recommendation letter to the Council requesting mandatory business recycling. 5. Old Business a. Vegetation Control Ordinance The Board reviewed the revised vegetation control ordinance and it is on the May 22nd City Council Agenda. b. Arbor Day Arbor Day was successful, and the children really enjoyed the event. 6. New Business • New Pest – The Spotted Lantern Fly is flagged as the new pest to watch out for and it is currently identified in Pennsylvania. • June Meeting – The meeting may move to June 27th. Ms. Oppelt will email everyone to confirm. 7. Adjournment Ms. O’Brien motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Mr. Meyer. The meeting adjourned at 8:13pm. 2
