Ms. Oppelt called the meeting to order at 7:03pm.
1. Approval of June Meeting Minutes: The minutes of the June 27, 2018 meeting were
reviewed and minor edits were made.
Motion: Adopt June meeting minutes with corrections.
Moved: Ms. Oppelt Second: Mr. Krouse
Aye: Unanimous Nay: 0 Abstain: 0
2. Public Works Department Report: Ms. Alexander shared the following highlights:
• Excel tree experts has completed the contracted tree work.
• Tree Canopy Assessment presentation from SavATree is scheduled for the
October 16th City Council Worksession.
• The University of Maryland students will start moving in this week..
• The landscape crew continues weeding and pruning. This week was
focused on storm clean up from Monday’s storm.
• Work begins at James Adams Park in Lakeland to pave the goat paths.
• There is a lot of compost available to purchase.
• Submitted a grant application to Department of Natural Resources for a
new playground at the end of Odessa.
3. CBE Report: Ms. Oppelt shared the following highlights:
• Rain barrel event was successful. 66 rain barrels were purchased.
• On September 12th from 7-9 pm, there will be a Maryland Sun Renewable
Energy presentation at City Hall.
• CBE may hold a pruning workshop, possibly at Davis Hall, with
demonstration performed on a few trees. Ms. Alexander was asked to lead
this workshop.
• The CBE is down 1 member.

• The Permaculture Garden walk had low attendance, possibly due to
weather. There is a plan to schedule another walk in the Spring and
include a scheduled rain day.
• The CBE annual report was submitted.
• Pay-as-you-throw report is drafted.
4. Old Business
a. TLB Annual Report
The Board reviewed the draft annual report and a few corrections were made to the draft.
Ms. Oppelt will update and have the board review the updated draft.
5. New Business
a. Beech Bark Disease: a new disease that may have impact on residential and municipal
American Beech Trees, is starting to spread.
6. Adjournment
Mr. Krouse motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Mr. Meyer. The meeting
adjourned at 8:25pm.
