I. Call the meeting to order
Mr. Gomoljak called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
II. Approval of the September 19, 2017 minutes
Mr. Davis made a motion to approve the September 19, 2017 minutes. Mr.
Ruth seconded the motion. All in were in favor. The motion passed.
III. Memorial Day Observance Ceremony, May 28, 2018, 11:00 am
A. The committee reviewed the draft program
The committee discussed the program and the event details and logistics:
• Boy Scouts distributing the programs
• Ringing of the bell while reading the names of Veterans
• Active military service member to say the Pledge of Allegiance
• Lunch donation from the American Legion
• Mr. & Mrs. Davis will donate ice and water
• Traffic control plans and creating vehicle barriers around the seating
area during the event
• Mr. Gomoljak located 200 names that will be included in the program
Mr. Davis will contact Melisa Sikes to ask if she would sing during the event
and Ivy Christophers to lead the invocation. Mr. Ruth will lead the
benediction.
IV. Making Doris Davis an Honoree Member
Mrs. Zito motioned to make Mrs. Davis a Member Emeritus. Mr. Ruth
seconded the motion. All in were in favor. The motion passed.
V. 2018 Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony: WWI ending 100 years ago -
Flander’s Field
A. The Committee event details and logistic:
• Locating relatives to bring portraits and photos to honor service
members from WWI
• Mr. Gomoljak is using genealogy resources from the library to locate
addiotnal names of WWI service members from College Park
• Tribute and acknowledgement-reading of names of the WWI Veterans
listed on the plaque
• Presentation of gifts: Peppermint Carnations & Framed images
• Mr. Gomoljak shared a photo of the framed images, there are three
displays to present: VFW, American Legion, and College Park City
Hall
• VFW or Color Guard member dressed in a replica uniform from WWI
• Use of the American Legion’s ceremonial rifle from the WWI period
• Presentation of a 48-star flag
Mr. Davis research costumes of uniform replicas from WWI.
Robert Marsili confirmed that the sound system has been ordered.
VI. Next Meeting
Two weeks prior to Memorial Day Ceremony, date and time to be confirmed.
Mr. Gomoljak will send details to the committee.
VII. Adjournment
Mr. Davis made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Ruth seconded motion.
All were in favor. Motioned passed. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 pm.
