RV/VEHICLE PARKING & STORAGE STUDY GROUP Meeting CITY HALL – 1840 SECOND STREET AUGUST 1, 2012, 6:00 P.M. ATTENDEES: Casey Wheeler Michael McGlothlin Ken Weiland Ron Adelman Helen Johnson MEETING STARTED: Meeting started at 6:08 p.m. MEETING DISCUSSION: Discussions centered around: Streamlining code enforcement – most individuals don’t do anything until they get the citation letter. What can be done to speed up the process so it doesn’t take so long? For chronic offenders (who know how the process works) can we jump straight to a citation letter and skip other steps? Enforcement example: 1. Verification of violation 2. In person contact made if possible, followed up with letter giving a specified amount of time to comply. 3. Follow up is made to ensure compliance by the given date. 4. If no compliance, another letter noting the violation with a final date given for compliance. 5. If still no compliance then a citation is issued for the code violation into Municipal Court. Safety issues – obstructing views of oncoming traffic or traffic at a corner. How far from the corner does a vehicle need to be? Simplified code – currently staff is bouncing between development code and nuisance code as the nuisance code refers to items in the development code. Can those be incorporated into the nuisance code so it is all in one place? Number of vehicles – what should be the limit on vehicles per location? What types of vehicles should be allowed? How will the current 720 square foot limit be applied and what does it mean? Undeveloped right of way – the group agreed that if parking is to be allowed in the undeveloped right of way that there needs to be some sort of surface cover – gravel or concrete to keep the area from getting rutted during the rainy season. RV/VEHICLE PARKING & STORAGE STUDY GROUP MEETING August 1, 2012 Page 2 of 2 Permit – a permit should be required for the parking for more than 72 hours in the developed right of way. For what period of time would the permit be valid before it would need to be renewed? Parking – should it be parallel or is head-in parking alright? The current vehicle parking width of 6 feet, is that enough? ADJOURNMENT: Meeting adjourned at approximately 7:10 p.m.
