The City of Columbia City In Columbia County on the Columbia River PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES DECEMBER 3, 2013 - 5:00 P.M. CITY HALL, 1840 SECOND STREET, COLUMBIA CITY, OR 97018 Present: Ted Burns, Committee Member Shannon Fitzgibbons, Chair Nell Harrison, Committee Member Jack Hruska, Committee Member Larry Preston, Committee Member Leahnette Rivers, City Administrator/Recorder Sally Ann Marson, City Council Member Veterans Memorial Park:  Review prices for wall materials: Leahnette explained that during the last Parks Committee Meeting, the Committee decided on the tile design to be used to face the four memorial wall sections, but the pricing information was not available until a design was selected. She said she has since priced the tile materials and the etching costs for the wall facing, and they come to $790 per wall section, or $11.62 per memorial brick. She said the decorative glazed tiles, the etching costs for the branch mottos, and the glazed pencil tiles for the outside edges increase the project costs. For comparative purposes, she said facing the walls solely with memorial bricks would cost $228 per wall section, or $1.88 per memorial brick. Members said they still preferred the decorative wall design, and agreed that the project costs could be reduced by reducing the number of wall sections to three. MOVED (HRUSKA), SECONDED (MARSON) AND CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY TO PROCEED WITH THE DECORATIVE WALL DESIGN SELECTED DURING THE LAST MEETING, AND REDUCE THE NUMBER OF WALL SECTIONS TO THREE. Members discussed the wall construction plans. Jack will run the plans by a concrete contractor to make sure it will be sturdy enough.  Monument status: Jason Jones plans to have the monument installed by the end of next week.
