The City of Columbia City In Columbia County on the Columbia River PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 7, 2014 - 5:00 P.M. CITY HALL, 1840 SECOND STREET, COLUMBIA CITY, OR 97018 Present: Shannon Fitzgibbons, Chair Ted Burns, Committee Member Nell Harrison, Committee Member Larry Preston, Committee Member Jack Hruska, Committee Member (arrived 5:21 p.m.; departed 5:26 p.m.) Leahnette Rivers, City Administrator/Recorder Veterans Memorial Park:  Discuss new monument: Members were pleased with the new monument. Larry has verified that the angle and placement is exactly in line with the angle of the sun on Memorial Day. Leahnette will check with Jason to obtain maintenance instructions for proper care of the monument. At the request of members, Leahnette will also check with Jason to see if he can further enhance the carved faces, and to find out if the gold paint needs to periodically be reapplied. Leahnette will also ask Jason for a proposal for creating a star with a lot of extra sparkle to place at the base of the monument.  Authorize final payment to Jason Jones Sculpture Studio: MOVED (PRESTON), SECONDED (FITZGIBBONS) AND CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY TO APPROVE FINAL PAYMENT OF THE 15% RETAINAGE TO JASON JONES ONCE THE MONUMENT HAS PASSED FINAL INSPECTION BY COLUMBIA COUNTY BUILDING DEPARTMENT. Dog Park:  Set date for grand opening: Members set the grand opening date and time for 10 a.m. on February 22, 2014. Event details will be determined during the next meeting. Set date and time for next meeting:  The next Parks Committee Meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. on January 21, 2014.
