Veterans Memorial Park:
Members met with Jason Jones to review a mock up of one of the monuments and
discuss the placement of the monuments and flag poles on the site. Members were
very pleased by the shape and size of the monuments. Monuments will be
constructed of black granite with 6” bronze service seals. Lit flag poles will be placed
approximately 4’ behind each monument, and service flags will be 3’ x 5’. Members
discussed pouring a concrete pad shaped in the form of an arch to serve as the base
of the monuments for ease in maintenance and protection of the monuments from
mowing equipment. Monuments will need to be spaced at least 7’ apart. The
remaining area will be seeded with grass. Members discussed planting some shrubs
and trees near the fence behind the monuments. Jason will return to the site on
Tuesday, September 30, with six wood boxes to represent the bases for the
monuments and determine their exact placement. Leahnette will have the pile of rocks
removed from the site in preparation for next Tuesday’s meeting.
Members discussed adding shade trees that will reach a height of about 40’ to the
south of the picnic tables, and identified their placement with stakes marked with blue
flags. Nell will consult with a specialist to get some recommendations.

Members discussed the two sequoia trees and redwood trees that were recently
donated. Members identified a place for one of the sequoia trees to the west of the
picnic table area. The other three trees will be planted in Jim Bundy Memorial Park.
Members selected the rock to be used as the base for the plaque dedicating the park
to all American veterans and their families, and marked its location to the east side of
the flag pole. Members selected two rocks to be placed in the area of the Blue Star
Byway Marker - a red star will be placed on one of the rocks, and a white star on the
other. Members agreed that the remaining rocks should extend along the top of the
bank to the west of the end of the fence.
Leahnette will have at least 6 yards of planting soil delivered to the site tomorrow. The
work crew will prep and seed the lawn area around the base of the flag pole.
Members selected the location for the large Veterans Park sign - it will be hung from
the top rail of the fence and face towards Highway 30.
The meeting adjourned at 1:27 p.m.
