COLUMBIA CITY, OR 97018

Kathleen Devlin, Committee Member
Jack Hruska, Committee Member
Leahnette Rivers, City Administrator/Recorder
Bill Warner - American Legion Post 42
Doug Peal, Adjutant/Finance Officer - American Legion Post 42
The meeting began at the Columbia City Veterans Park.
Veterans Park:
A dog bag dispenser should be added near the trash can at the corner of the fencing, and
the “pick up after your pet” sign needs to be installed.
We need some additional trash cans on event day.
The bark dust should be pulled away from the bottom of the fencing to prevent rotting.
Nell will find some replacements for the dead shrubs.
Key program participants will be invited to the next Parks Committee Meeting, which will
be held on site, for an informal rehearsal.
We need about 60 chairs for the event.
We need to test out the speaker system in our podium. If it is not sufficient, a sound
system should be rented, and possibly a stage.
The speaker will be staged at the far north section of the park.
Before raising the American flag, the MC should ask the veterans to gather for the flag
rising.
Flag fans will be hung on every other section of fencing, small flags will line the bike path
from Pacific Street to Mattie Street, and the Girl Scouts will hand out free flags.
The construction porta-potty will be swapped with a handicapped porta-potty for the
1
event, and some lattice fencing will be used to help screen the porta-potty from view.
The porta-potty will be removed from the site after the event.
The meeting recessed and reconvened in Harvard Park.
Harvard Park:
The cedar chips need to be raked and turned.
Grass clippings should be collected and removed every other week during the spring.
Members discussed the issue of parking, and considered adding “no parking” signs to the
Sixth Place alley and on Penn Street between Sixth Street and Sixth Place. Members
noted that on street parking is available on the east side of Sixth Street and on Penn
Street to the east of Sixth Street.
Schedule Next Meeting/Adjournment: The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19th
at 5:00 p.m. Meeting adjourned 6:28 p.m.
