1. Call to Order
Chair Plummer called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
Present 12 - Commissioner Carol Taylor-Boyd, Commissioner Carole Harvell, Alternate
Commissioner Diane Narvaez, Ex Officio Gabriela Adeshewo,
Commissioner George Maxey, Commissioner Jennie Loveridge, Mayor Pro
Tem Jennifer Allen-Thomas, Commissioner Mary Chan, Commissioner Mary
Natho, Commissioner Myrna Ferguson, Council Member Susan Noble, and
Commissioner Tillie Villareal
Absent 1 - Commissioner Anita Mercado
2. Guest Speaker: Sarah Nachtman, Community Well-Being Manager
Sarah Nachtman and Sherry Adams from the City's Community Well-Being Division
discussed the role of their division and the Family and Senior Navigator position.
Mayor Pro Tem Allen-Thomas and Commissioner Maxey joined the meeting.
3. Approval of Minutes
Min 23-028 Minutes of the Nov. 10, 2022 Meeting
Vice Chair Boyd made a motion to approve the minutes of the Nov. 10, 2022 meeting.
Commissioner Chan seconded the motion which was approved unanimously.
4. Monthly Budget Update
Staff Liaison, Jenny Penoncello, provided a monthly budget update.

5. New Business:
A. Senior Commission Ordinance Update
Staff Liaison, Jenny Penoncello, presented the process to update the Senior
Commission establishing ordinance to include community service projects as a power
of the Commission.
Commissioner Chan made a motion to recommend the ordinance update to City
Council. Commissioner Villareal seconded the motion which was approved
unanimously.
B. Senior Commission Subcommittees: Resource Fair & Housing Visits
The Commission discussed creating two subcommittees. One for the Senior Resource
Fair and one for the Senior Housing Visits.
Commissioner Ferguson and Councilmember Noble joined the meeting.
Vice Chair Boyd made a motion to create two subcommittees to plan the Senior
Resource Fair and Senior Housing Visits. Commissioner Harvell seconded the motion
which was approved unanimously.
Commissioner Chan made a motion to create a Work Session for the two
subcommittees on the fourth Thursday of the month at 3:00 p.m. via Zoom. Vice Chair
Boyd seconded the motion which was approved unanimously.
Commissioner Loveridge made a motion to appoint Chair Plummer as the Chair of the
Senior Resource Fair subcommittee and Vice Chair Boyd as Chair of the Senior
Housing Visit subcommittee. Commissioner Villareal seconded the motion which was
approved unanimously.
C. Memorial Day Parade 2023 Participation
The Commission discussed the Memorial Day Parade. Vice Chair Boyd made a motion
to participate in the parade. Commissioner Loveridge seconded the motion which was
approved unanimously.
6. Old Business
Vice Chair Boyd requested an update on the senior needs assessment. Staff Liaison,
Jenny Penoncello, provided an update.
Councilwoman Noble facilitated a conversation regarding the Family and Senior
Navigator position, and requested input from the Commission. The Commission
discussed.
7. Other Business
The Commission discussed meeting with other local senior commissions and senior
centers to gather ideas.
Staff Liaison, Jenny Penoncello, discussed future guest speakers. The Commission
agreed to invite the Housing Authority to come and speak at a future meeting.

8. Adjourn
Chair Plummer adjourned the meeting at 5:01 p.m.
