Call to Order Vice Chair Velasco-Zubia called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. Present 13 - Commissioner Aliyah Acevedo, Commissioner Desiree Kennison, Commissioner Isabela Velasco-Zubia, Commissioner Megan Pham, Commissioner Morgan Smith, Commissioner Olivia Cordero, Commissioner René Bullock, Commissioner Travis Watkins, Council Member Craig Kim, Commissioner Elizabeth Martinez-Atayde, Commissioner Manuel Guardiola-Rodriguez, Commissioner Alejandra Guardiola, and Commissioner Serrianna Safieh Absent 8 - Commissioner Christina Wickersheim, Commissioner Cobe Koonce, Commissioner Keegan Jones, Commissioner Kenia Prieto, Council Member Kristi Douglas, Commissioner Laura Hellewell, Commissioner Michael Kelley, and Commissioner Paia Martinez 2. Guest Speaker: Trenten Robinson, Civic Academy The Guest Speaker, Trenten Robinson, provided an overview on the role of local government. 3. Approval of Minutes Min 23-109 Minutes of the April 6, 2023 meeting Commissioner Acevedo made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 6, 2023 meeting. Commissioner Cordero seconded the motion which was approved unanimously. 4. New Business A. Annual Report to the City Council Staff provided a scheduling update on the Youth Commission's presentation to the City Council on May 8. B. Music in the Park Table The Commission discussed surveying youth residents at the Music in the Park concerts. Commerce City Page 1 Youth Commission Meeting Minutes - Final April 20, 2023 5. Old Business A. Memorial Day Parade Commissioner Acevedo shared an idea for shirts for the Memorial Day Parade. Commissioners Cordero and Kennison provided a brief update on decor. B. Blood Drive Staff shared three new dates in July for the Blood Drive. Commissioner Acevedo made a motion to table this discussion until the meeting. Commissioner Kennison seconded the motion which was approved unanimously. 6. Other Business Commissioner Acevedo shared details from the walk out to protest gun violence at her school. Council member Kim led a discussion on pedestrian safety and bullying. The Commissioners discussed. 7. Adjourn Vice Chair Velasco-Zubia adjourned the meeting at 7:59 p.m. Commerce City Page 2
