COOKEVILLE HISTORIC ZONING COMMISSION DECEMBER 11, 2001 5:30 P.M. The Cookeville Historical Commission met on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 45 East Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501. MEMBERS PRESENT: Don Prince, Greg Stamps, Calvin Dickinson, and Alma Anderson. MEMBER ABSENT: Eunetta Jenkins. STAFF PRESENT: James Mills and Jayne Barns. OTHERS PRESENT: See attached Record of Attendance. WELCOME NEW MEMBERS - EUNETTA JENKINS & ALMA ANDERSON. CONSIDER FOR APPROVAL THE MINUTES OF AUGUST 14, 2001. Alma Anderson made the motion to approve the minutes of August 14, 2001. Calvin Dickinson seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. APPROVED. DISCUSS POSSIBLE EXPANSION OF THE HISTORIC DISTRICT SOUTH TO BROAD STREET. James Mills stated that the City Council requested that the Planning staff discuss the possible expansion of the Historic District south to Broad Street. The Council would like to see a more complete district. Letters were mailed out to the property owners inviting them to attend the meeting. Jean Metz, representative of First Presbyterian Church, was present and gathering information for their church. Bobby Williams, Trustee for First United Methodist Church, expressed his concern on how the guidelines will effect the current expansion plans for the church. Greg Stamps volunteered to meet with the officials of both churches and answer any questions that they might have concerning the Historic District. James Mills stated that he will contact Whitson’s Funeral Home before the next meeting and get their opinion on being included in the Historic District. REVIEW GUIDELINES FOR NORTH DIXIE AVENUE. Copies of the Guidelines were distributed to the residents of North Dixie Avenue. Marcia Donovan requested that the following changes be made to the guidelines: General Landscaping Add #3: Occasional – not routine- parking on the grass is allowed but greatly discourages as it does damage the yard and the sidewalk. Add Sandstone Flagstones to all items that reference sidewalks. General Landscaping Add #7: Maintaining including mowing right- of-way. COOKEVILLE HISTORIC ZONING COMMISSION 2 DECEMBER 11, 2001 Jennifer Williams stated that the illustrations needed to be replaced. She will e-mail Mr. Mills with the guidelines for him to update. Staff will mail the revised guidelines to all property owners before the next meeting. Dr. Walter Derryberry stated that the Hospital is looking at 4th Street for a possible major route from the east and he wanted to let the Commission be aware of their plans. ADJOURNMENT: 6:37 P.M.
