CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION Minutes of February 3, 2015 Present: Commission Members Eve Casserly; Josh Schamberger; and Lauren Merritt; Human Resource/Risk Manager Mike Funke; Police Chief Barry Bedford Meeting was called to order at 10:00AM. Approve Agenda: Motion by Merritt; Second by Schamberger; Motion passed all ayes. Approve Minutes of September 30, 2014: Motion by Merritt; Second by Schamberger; Motion passed all ayes. Consider Certification of the Police Officer hiring list: The list of candidates was presented in rank order to the Commission by Funke. Funke noted there were 61 applications received; 37 who reported for the test; 29 were interviewed January 25 – January 27. The interview committee consisted of Funke; Lt. Kron; Lt. Summers; Sgt. Droll; and citizen Alex Lodge. He explained the six candidates presented on the list were unanimous in that all five committee members placed them on their individual hiring list. Of the candidates who were not placed on the list, the most any one candidate appeared on individual lists was two. Therefore the committee felt very confident in the six. Funke then gave a brief bio of each of the six. Casserly asked about Vazquez where it was noted he had recently accepted a position with the City of North Liberty and how, if at all, that could impact his appearance on the list. Both Funke and Chief Bedford explained that he is still worthy of a spot and that if circumstances change with his situation in North Liberty within the next two years then he may be considered as someone the Chief may hire. Motion by Schamberger; Second by Merritt; Motion passed all ayes.
