Coralville Citizen's Community Policing Advisory Board

CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION Minutes of March 25, 2019 Present: Commission Members Eve Casserly; Josh Schamberger; and Lauren Merritt; Human Resource/Risk Manager Mike Funke; Police Chief Shane Kron. Meeting was called to order at 12:03 PM. Approve Agenda: Motion by Merritt; Second by Schamberger; Motion passed all ayes. Approve Minutes of February 13, 2019: Motion by Merritt; Second by Schamberger; Motion passed all ayes. Consider Certification of the Police Officer Hiring List Funke presented the Police Officer hiring list. He reported they were very pleased with the number of interviews conducted, 31. Also very pleased to submit a list of 6 candidates for approval. This is a smaller number compared to previous years Funke gave each member a brief bio of the 6 on the list. He reminded the commission that although presented in rank order, if approved, Chief Kron may hire in any order. Motion by Merritt; Second by Schamberger; Motion passed all ayes. Other Business Funke asked the Commission be prepared to discuss the minimum age for hiring a police officer with the City of Coralville when the next testing occurs. Currently the candidate must be 21 years of age to be hired. They may be younger and still make the list. Although this may not be in the Commission’s scope of decision making, Funke noted that their input is appreciated and valued Motion to Adjourn Motion by Schamberger; Second by Merritt; Motion passed all ayes.
