Meeting Minutes May 18, 2020 Coralville Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm. All members were in attendance along with Sherri Proud, Director of Parks and Recreation, and Recreation Interns Joci Martinez and Rachel Montgomery. Commission members heard presentations by three playground companies which were Landscape Structures, Inc., Cunningham Recreation, and Play Craft. All companies had something unique to offer. Commission members weighed the following points for each presentation: was the proposal 1) fun and creative, 2) appropriate for ages 2-5, 3) have opportunities for sensory play, 4) can company meet schedule, 5) are there multiple play opportunities, 6) are there ADA components/structure accessible. Commission decided to ask two companies to make adjustments to their proposals for their consideration, Landscape Structures, Inc and Play Craft. Commission will review again for June meeting. Reports: Council Person Dodds talked about current shutdown, impacts that may have to future budgets, and the arena and field house schedule. Director Proud talked about putting together budget cuts in the range of $600,000 to $700,000 for FY21. These cuts will likely remain in place through FY22 and FY23 as we move forward with possible changes to the City’s tax base from repercussions of COVID 19. Commission Comments: Tawil spoke of her recent letter to Council regarding visiting the questions of backyard chickens. Tawil shared information she’d found about other community’s ordinances regarding chickens. Dodds said that it would be good for Council to discuss the issue. Commission adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
