Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes 6-20-2022 Submitted by: Sherri Proud, Director of Parks and Recreation An open house for the 5th Street Civic Spaces Master Planning was held in lieu of a regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission. The open house was held at City Hall from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Over 50 people attended the open house. Draft diagrams were provided for feedback. Compiled feedback has been attached to this document. Most common discussions for the park space boards centered around liking the vibrancy and activities suggested, interested in the boardwalk features over the pond, repurposing the Silver Lilly pond statue to another location (perhaps a dry statue), and the multi-use shelter with possibility for amphitheater/stage space. Other questions were raised about restrooms and it gave a chance to show that restrooms are available at end of Aquatic Center and open 24 hours a day for entire season. Staff will provide signage at the park shelters with this information. Ball diamond was also questioned and will be changed to not show an outfield fence. Intention is just to switch the orientation of the practice diamond, not to fence it in. Next steps will be for Confluence Landscape Architects to revise the drawings, City staff will review, and the concepts will be loaded to the 5th Street improvements webpage.
