Cortez Public Art Advisory Committee (CPAAC) Regular Meeting Minutes Nov 7, 2022, 5-6 PM Cortez City Hall 1. Attendance Tai Rogers - Chair ● Jon Brooks - website David Ross - Vice Chair Rachael Marchbanks – CEDD City Samantha Combs - Secretary Becky Levy - The Cultural Center ● Isabella Sharpensteen - City Liaison ● TJ Zark - Mancos Creative District David Rainey - Council Liaison Jessica Thurman - CED MoCo ● Drew Sanders - City Manager 2. Tai called meeting to order at 5:05 pm 3. Review Minutes: a. Review Minutes Sep 5, 2022- amend to minutes in header, Tai mtns to approve with changes, David seconded b. Review Minutes Oct 3, 2022- amend to minutes in header, Tai mtns to approve with changes, David seconded 4. Old Business: a. Farm to Spaceship i. more clear that this is a consultant group for immersive experience economy 1. examples haunted house, escape room, meow wolf ii. Grand Junction and San Luis (business incubator) are working with them iii. pop up things like coffee shops in alleyways iv. Craig interested in partnering with us “how the west was won” wine event v. Centennial “spark colorado” business incubator vi. SOTO theater immersive play - old dentist office turned into individual set scenes in each room and actors had audience follow them through each scene/room vii. try to partner artists with business owners for mutual benefits viii. also interested in partnering with schools to get students on board ix. Rachael Marchbanksmentioned partnering with LOR since Farm to Spaceship are consultants that will need to be paid 1. near norwood or redvale - 5 star chef makes dinner in furniture store and it sells out a year in advance x. Tai Rogers mentions “camp christmas” or “purple fox” xi. Downtown Colorado Inc. (DCI) - many projects have been done county wide - DOLA helped fund it too xii. Jessica Thurman mentioned that there were many foundations that might be great for us. Brian from Farm to Spaceship may have a bunch of connections to help fill that gap 1. mentions that it is expensive - about 10,000 for a small event 2. David Raineymentioned that city council is reaching out to the Ute Mountain Ute tribe for collaboration in conjunction with towns of Dolores, Mancos, and Montezuma County c. David Raineymentions connecting with downtown businesses re. their bottom line d. Rachael Marchbanksmentions that CREA has 500 dollar grants and maybe they can partner with LOR 7. Announcements: a. Samantha Combsmentions that there are board vacancies at the Mancos Creative District b. Tai - meeting with Tami Graham Friday Nov 18, 2022 4:30 pm @ fenceline c. Tai - to meet with mayor re. city de-vesting in the murals d. Tai to set up meeting with Nicci Crowleyof LOR e. Dave to set up meeting with TJ Zark f. Sam to set up meeting with Brenda Macon g. Sam to set up a foundry tour in Paonia in December h. Sam to reach out to the native chef from Dunton to connect with Becky at cultural center i. Becky Levyis going to a thing in New York for Performance Art Professionals j. Rachael Marchbanksmentioned that our lodger’s tax is relatively low - city has 36,000 available for “beautification” for the city. facade improvement, public art, flowers, etc. in 2023. Maybe DCI can help with ideas? i. Rachael Marchbanksto find out more about what the funds can be spent on and then will ask us for recommendations ii.
