Cortez Public Art Advisory Committee (CPAAC) Minutes September 9, 2024, 5 PM Cortez City Hall, Mesa Verde Room Attendance: Tai Rogers-Chair, Sascha Steinberg-Vice chair, Erik Quiroz-Committee Member, Nyx Poulin-Committee Member, Helen West-City staff, Jake McIntosh-Committee Member 1. Call to Order: 5:01 PM 2. Introduction of those present: none a. Public Input/ Comments: none 3. Approval of minutes from August 5, 2024 meeting: moved by Steinberg, seconded by Quiroz, approved 4. Old Business: a. Ad Hoc Meeting Review: Committee discussed strategic plans for creating a Creative Arts District. b. Third Thursday Updates i. September 19 – Steinberg and West will tag-team. c. 81321 Update – There are no current grant applications, deadline is October 1st by the end of the day. d. CCA Logos (Steinberg) – There was a discussion on a logo for the Cortez Creative Alliance. e. Creative District – tabled until another meeting. Members were asked to read the two Mancos strategic plans. An Ad Hoc meeting was scheduled for a later time, West will send a poll for Friday, October 4 and Friday, October 11 to schedule the meeting. 5. New Business: a. Mural Pictures – Rogers thinks there is a digital folder of images already. West will reach out to the Zu Gallery and CREA to see if images for the mural brochure could be used. b. Mural at Farmer’s Market report – The mural near the Cortez Farmer’s Market by Deb Lux-Harriman and students needs to be redone. The owner of the building is raising the roof, and would like to add to the mural if possible. West, Nicci Crowley from LOR, the owner of the building, and Deb Lux-Harriman met to discuss the project and how to involve the community. This could be a partnership with the owner of the building, 81321 Launch, LOR, and potentially other grant funding in 2025. Interested in volunteering with the Arts Committee? Report for City Council – the Committee will consider creating a report for City Council sometime in early 2025. Committee members will gather photos from Third Thursday and email photos to hwest@cortezco.gov or text 970-331-0213. 6. Update from Committee Members: a. Nyx Poulin – The Montezuma-Cortez High School and Middle School Drama is looking for sponsors for their 2024-2025 season. Nicholaus Sander, theater director for MCHS, won theater director of the year for Colorado State. The MCHS-Improv shows will be September 10 from 7 -8 PM and October 1st from 7- 8 PM, the combined choir concert is October 2nd from 6 – 8 PM. b. Squirrel Congress – There will be a fundraiser for Good Sams on October 19 at Turquoise Raven for $10 for adults and $5 for children. October 24 – 26 will be the ghost tours. c. KSJD – The Sunflower Theater has lots of events coming up. The Arts & Culture Day for Leadership Montezuma will be on Thursday, September 12. KSJD is doing the Fall Fundrive starting on September 20, 2025: prizes include a stay at Camp V and pair of Klipsch speakers. d. McIntosh will be playing at the Cortez Farmers Market this Saturday, September 14. McIntosh will also be playing with several bands at the Dolores Harvest Festival on September 28th. 7.
