CITY OF CORTLAND LANDSCAPE AND DESIGN COMMISSION MINUTES – November 13, 2014 Mayor’s Conference Room at 4:00 p.m. Members Present: Mike Dexter (Chair), Suzanne Etherington, Theresa Quail, Nick DeCarlo, Diane Batzing Approve the September 11, 2014 Minutes: Comm. Quail, 1st; Comm. Etherington, 2nd 2015 Tree Program Planning Nick Dovi will provide the list of properties that have had trees and/or stumps removed; the owners are eligible to receive a replacement tree next spring. Businesses and property owners in the East End will be solicited for program tree interest and applications. There are approximately 50 planting sites at commercial and business locations. Recent Tree Concerns/Notes • Comm. Dexter and Jim Maloney spent an afternoon looking at some tree issues and pruning some trees. • 17 Hamlin St. – National Grid will remove • 14 Clayton Ave. (YWCA) – National Grid will remove the large little leaf linden, depending YW Board approval. • Trees at Cedar St. and Homer Ave. do not involve overhead wires for National Grid involvement. • Comm. Quail brought up the issue of the Huntington St. lindens adjacent to Meldrim Field that have been trimmed away from wires several times. In the future we may ask John McNerney to remove them. Tree City USA Progress Comm. Dexter needs the amounts from this year’s tree cost and figures from National Grid and the DPW for the application totals. Comm. Paradine had NYSEG mulch the Court House elms ($2,000). We have $26,000 of the two- dollar per resident amount so far. Other •The Church St. rose garden needs volunteers to remove the annual plants in preparation for winter. Comm. Etherington will plant spring bulbs next fall. • The NY ReLeaf Winter ID Tree Autopsy workshop is being held in Buffalo. • Comm. Dexter is following up on court proceedings for the tree vandalism that occurred at 146 S.
