May 2020 Tree Planting Program Planning
• A gas line runs along part of the right-of-way space at the County Office Bldg. parking lot on
Greenbush St. We are scheduled to plant 17 underwire trees there and will need to decide
whether we can hand dig the holes. Comm. Batzing has been communicating with Doug Spafford
from NYSEG.
Recent Tree Concerns/Notes
• The ginkgo planted at 11 Homer Ave. in 2015 has been snapped off near the ground. Comm.
Dexter spoke to two student residents.
• Comm. Shimizu will contact the college office about the city not receiving the $1000 grant
check that was expected following her student project with the Commission.
Other
• Comm. Dexter announced that he will be going off the Commission following next May’s tree
planting. The members were sad to hear this. He did say that he will continue to assess trees in
the city with Jim Maloney.
• Comm. Batzing will meet with Rich Cunningham at Thoma Development on October 10 to begin
planning for the Inventory and Management and the Maintenance portions of the NY DEC Round
15 application.
Steve Broyles has offered to update his 2008 inventory, but the DEC is now requiring surveys to
be completed by certified arborists.
• Comm. Batzing has composed a letter asking the engineers for the Clinton Ave. project to
communicate the plans for tree planting with the Commission. We will ask the mayor to provide
a City letterhead.
Next Meeting: November 13, 2019 – 4 p.m. – Mayor’s Conference Room
Respectfully,
Comm. Batzing
