CITY OF CORTLAND LANDSCAPE AND DESIGN COMMISSION MINUTES – September 9, 2020 70 Church St., Cortland at 4:00 p.m. Members Present: Mike Dexter (Chair), Anne Doyle, Theresa Quail, Melinda Shimizu, Paul Paradine, Diane Batzing Consulting Arborist: Jim Maloney Approve June 10, 2020 Minutes: Comm. Quail, 1st; Comm. Shimizu, 2nd NYS Urban and Community Forestry Council Grant Opportunity We will submit an application for a $1000 grant to plant a golden rain tree at the Water Works, a very public site with high visibility. This event will be advertised through various media and videotaped for viewing on the Cortland Voice during this period of Covid-19 restrictions. Photos of the location are required for the application, along with a budget for the tree and materials. Updates for May 2020 National Grid Planting Project • The Water Department continues to water the trees every other day as we await an appropriate planting time. This has been an especially hot and dry period, and when the weather becomes more acceptable for planting, Nic Dovi and Jim Maloney will approve the start of the project. UFPOs will need to be marked. Comms. Dexter and Batzing will mark the tree locations, with property owner input. Recent Tree Concerns/Notes • A dead concolor fir tree on the Church St. median will need to be removed. Other • Comm.
