Superintendent's Report:
Superintendent's Report
for

(as written by Supt. Adams)
Administration–
The 2018 department head budget for wastewater has been submitted to the administration. The Mayor may
choose to adjust it then it will be presented to the Common Council. The budget is in some regards leaner
than recent ones in that expenses are beginning to come into line with anticipated revenues. I have drafted
what I feel is a conservative budget but as always, it’s only an estimation of what may come to pass.
National Grid has given us the CESIR study report on our planned generator. An initial read-through
indicates there are no expensive surprises, which is good news. The engineers will analyze the report more
fully then submit orders on our behalf for the remainder of the CHP equipment.
As of this coming Thursday, we will no longer be operating the pretreatment system of KIK (Marietta).
The loss of income is unfortunate, but this will free up labor resources for the operation and maintenance
of our own facility.
This week Margie Becker and I will work with Cedarwood Engineering and the City finance department
to reconcile project expenditures to date and upcoming with EFC disbursements and capital reserve cash
flow.
On 8/25, we met with Byrne Dairy to discuss the digester and CHP project in light of Byrne’s future
disposal needs. Byrne is aware that we will be accepting wastes from other dairy companies in order to
produce the methane needed for full generation capacity. Byrne advises us they are still on track with the
growth forecasts they had given us earlier in the year.

Plant Manager’s Report:
Plant Managers Report
for

Operations-
The process is running well. Removal rates are still 94% or better.
There were no violations for the month of July.
I continue to send a monthly update to May El Prince, our DEC inspector via email.
The SBR startup was not successful. We were not able to get the flow meter working in the intercept chamber,
which controls chlorine dosing and effluent sampling. John Waters was here on the 25th with a factory rep. It
looks like they will have it working for September 6th.
Chlorine season is going well.
Maintenance-
The maintenance staff and I continue to work on creating entries in our computerized maintenance management
system for the new equipment.
Work continues on preventative maintenance on the process tanks.
The RAS pump was hooked up and aligned and is ready to put into service.
We received a quote on the parts for rehab of our final settling tanks. Because of budget concerns, we will try to
break the work up into sections of tank that are the most in need of repair.
Presented by Bruce Adams, Supt., on behalf of
Edward Poole
