CITY OF DARLINGTON COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS JANUARY 6, 2026 The meeting was called to order by Mayor McDermott at 7:00 PM. Present at roll call were: John Sonsalla, Steve Pickett, Kerry Black, Joe Boll, Cindy Corley, and Dave Roelli. Absent: None. Also present were: Dave Lindecker, Kim Winslow, and Amy Johnson. Motion by Pickett, seconded by Sonsalla, the meeting notice and agenda were properly posted. Motion carried. Motion by Pickett, seconded by Boll, to approve the minutes of previous meetings. Motion carried. Under new business, discussion was held concerning the following recommendation from the Finance and Personnel Committee: • Approve the hiring of an applicant for the Public Works position. Mayor McDermott reported that the committee is recommending the hiring of Kathrine Ottenhausen for this position, with a starting wage of $24.00 an hour, two weeks of vacation, plus benefits. The City agrees to pay for classes necessary for Kathrine to obtain her CDL license, with the understanding that if employment is terminated within the first two years, the City will be reimbursed by Kathrine for the costs. After discussion and consideration, motion by Pickett, seconded by Black, to accept the Committee’s recommendation of hiring Kathrine Lindecker as presented. All ayes. Motion carried. Discussion was then held concerning accepting the engagement letters from Johnson Block and Co. to perform the 2025 City of Darlington Audit. After discussion and consideration, motion by Pickett, seconded by Sonsalla, to accept the engagement letters from Johnson Block and Co. to perform the 2025 City of Darlington Audit. Motion carried. A report on nomination papers filed for municipal offices for the 2026 Spring Election was then presented. The following candidates filed nomination papers for the offices shown: Mayor – Dave Roelli; Alderperson, First Aldermanic District – Kerry Black; Alderperson, Second Aldermanic District – no papers were filed; and Alderperson, Third Aldermanic District – Joseph Boll. Under reports of committees, Mayor McDermott reported that the Lafayette County EMS recently held a meeting. Alderperson Joe Boll asked the Council to let him or Wade know of any larger projects that they feel need to be addressed in the Parks for 2026. The Pool Committee will visit area businesses to inquire about their sponsorship of splash pad features. There being no further business for this meeting, motion by Roelli, seconded by Sonsalla, to adjourn the meeting at 7:10 PM. Motion carried. CITY OF DARLINGTON Amy L. Johnson, Clerk-Treasurer
