UNAPPROVED DERBY PARK AND URBAN FORESTRY BOARD MINUTES October 10, 2019 Call to Order: 11:00 A. M. Roll Call: Members Present Members Absent David Peebler Seth Berg Sherri Farmer Rick Dame Marty Hunt Bruce Renberger Jason Griffin Approval of Minutes: Motion: Dave Peebler moved to approve the amended minutes of October 10, 2019 Second: Marty Hunt second. Vote: All yea, motion carried. Open Forum: Matt Biegel, a student at FHSU, attended the meeting. He is taking a class in which he identifies an issue within the community that we might need assistance with. He offered his help with the skate park. He would like to help in connecting us with resources, labor and ideas to improve public perception of the park. Old Business: Decarsky Park Update: Mr. White showed the group the latest progress on Decarsky park. There have been some rain delays. Smoking Ban Update: The City Council approved the partial ban on smoking in gathering areas. Skate Park Demolition: Demo of the building will begin on Monday. There will be some shade structures added, drinking fountain replaced and add some tables. The portable restroom that is there now will be switched to an ADA restroom. There are options for permanent restroom facilities that will be looked at for the future. In November Mr. White will be requesting ideas for improvements and additions to the skatepark. New Business: Mr. White updated the board on his trip to the NPRA conference and showed some features he would like to incorporate in the parks as well as spoke about classes he attended. ADA Features – Parks are going to be updated for ADA access. Storm Response – Photos of the storm damage and clean up of Hand Park, Garrett Park and Crane Park. 1 WRP – Derby won the APWA National Project of the Year. The award was presented at a conference in Seattle. Warren Riverview Park and MACP Sod – Sod at MACP has been replaced along Madison and Derby Avenue. The sod at WRP bounced back after all the rains. Stone Creek Park – All disc golf baskets have been replaced. Thank you Mr. Hunt for organizing a fund-raising tournament and securing grant funding for the project. Park Rules Signage – Park Rules signage and safety guidelines have been updated and revamped to include the nonsmoking rules as well as a more positive message to the public. RRR- Motor. The pump had to be replaced and only had to be shut down 1 day this year. Great Day of Service-Southrock Christian church spread mulch at some of our smaller playgrounds in the community. What’s new for 2020. 4 new full -time positions will be added which includes a horticulturist. Tree Lighting – Event is November 21 from 6-8 pm. We would like to invite the PUF board to assist with activities. PUF Board Initiatives – We would will be discussing initiatives for the PUF board to focus on in the coming months in order to have more of a presence in the community. High Park – Ball park lights were replaced. Motion to adjourn: Jason Griffin moved to adjourn October 10, 2019 PUF meeting. Second: Dave Peebler, second. Vote: All yea, motion carried unanimous. End.
