UNAPPROVED DERBY PARK AND URBAN FORESTRY BOARD MINUTES November 14, 2019 Call to Order: 11:00 A. M. Roll Call: Members Present Members Absent David Peebler Seth Berg Sherri Farmer Rick Dame Marty Hunt Bruce Renberger Jason Griffin Also in attendance: Kristy Bansemer, Steve White, Joe Loflin, Shana Sneath, Matt Biegel Approval of Minutes: Motion: Bruce Renberger moved to approve the minutes of October 10, 2019 Second: Dave Peebler second. Vote: All yea, motion carried. Open Forum: Kristy Bansemer, Communications Director, spoke to the group about volunteering for the Spring Into Art event. She also suggested the board set up an educational booth to answer questions about the Tree Planting Guide as well as give information about Derby’s Parks. The board agreed it was a good idea. Old Business: Decarsky Park Update: Mr. White showed the group the latest progress on Decarsky park. Signage is being installed, a lot of concrete has been poured on Rover Lane and the dog park is progressing. More features are starting to take shape. Skate Park Update: The building has been demolished. Seth and Mr. White met onsite and talked about issues and things that need to be revamped. More concrete and space is being added; a sidewalk will be added soon as well. Smoking Ban: The ban has gone into effect; there are designated smoking areas. New Business: Waterfowl signage: There have been people encouraging feeding the ducks bread. It is causing issues with geese sticking around and creating waste. Educational signage is being posted at High Park to educate people not to feed the geese. 1 WRP Bioswale – The May/June rains damaged the bioswale. Larger rocks will be installed before the Spring rains come in. Crane Park Chainsaw Art – There is a large walnut tree that was cut down and we would like to create chainsaw art out of it. Investigating artists right now. Park Ambassadors – There has been an increase in vandalism. Park Ambassadors could be a way to deter this. Volunteers could communicate directly with the police department and be proactive about preserving the parks. They could also have an educational talk with people about the parks. The board is interested in this idea. Eagle Scout Project Ideas – Suggestions are requested for Eagle Scout projects; please let Mr. White know if you have ideas for this. PUF Board Ideas –Mr. White would like suggestions for what the PUF Board would like to see in the parks system to help the City plan for the future. Motion to adjourn: Jason Griffin moved to adjourn November 14, 2019 PUF meeting. Second: Rick Dame, second. Vote: All yea, motion carried unanimous. End. Respectfully Submitted, Shana Sneath Public Works Coordinator, Sherri Farmer Chairwoman 2
