UNAPPROVED DERBY PARK AND URBAN FORESTRY BOARD MINUTES February 13, 2020 Call to Order: 11:00 A. M. Roll Call: Members Present Members Absent David Peebler Rick Dame Seth Berg Sherri Farmer Marty Hunt Jason Griffin Bruce Renberger Also in attendance: Steve White, Joe Loflin, Shana Sneath Approval of Minutes: Motion: David Peebler moved to approve the minutes from December 12, 2019 Second: Marty Hunt second. Vote: All yea, motion carried. Open Forum: None Old Business: Decarsky Park Update: The power has been turned on at Decarsky Park. Mr. White presented a slide show to the board of what has been completed to date. The dog park will be closed for maintenance periodically and the public will be notified. Details of that will need to be worked out. Warren Riverview Park: The bioswale has been reshaped and larger rocks have been installed to allow for better flow of water to the river. Park Ambassador Update: The Senior Center is interested in assisting with the program. The program is still a work in progress for Derby, more information to come. Eagle Scout Project: An Eagle Scout built and installed a bee hotel/pollination station at Philips Burr Oak Park this will help with the repopulation of bees in the area. New Business: 2020 Purchases: Several new equipment pieces have been purchased, i.e; mowers, pick-up trucks, a grass blower, utility vehicles and turf management equipment. Drain grates are being replaced at RRR. 1 2020 Personnel: Interviews for 2 new staff members are tomorrow. The Parks Department will be getting 3 groundskeepers and 1 horticulturalist. Dates: Mr. White reviewed the 2020 events. Spring Into Art: The event is April 19, the PUF Board will be running an informational booth with the tree planting guide. Expiring Terms: Seth Berg will be stepping down this year after 6 years of service. Motion to adjourn: Marty Hunt moved to adjourn the February 13, 2020 PUF meeting. Second: Dave Peebler, second. Roll Call: Members Present Members Absent David Peebler Bruce Renburger Seth Berg Sherri Farmer Rick Dame Marty Hunt Jason Griffin Also in attendance: Steve White, Joe Loflin, Shana Sneath, Robert Mendoza Approval of Minutes: Motion: Jason Griffin moved to approve the minutes from November 14, 2019 Second: Richard Dame second. Vote: All yea, motion carried. Open Forum: The board discussed the Tree Lighting, Sherri Farmer commented the event was a success and thanked the staff for all their hard work. Old Business: Decarsky Park Update: The Park is starting to take shape. The signage is up. Led lights will fade in and out and change colors on the side. Various photos of park progress were shown. Skate Park Update: 3000 square feet of concrete was added as well as a straight walkway. Waterfowl Signage will be installed soon in an effort to deter people from feeding the ducks and geese. WRP Bioswale Spring rains had an impact on stonework. It will be repaired in-house. Park Ambassador Update Mr. White is speaking with the Police Department and the Senior Center about interest in the Park Ambassador Program. New Business: PUF Board Ideas: The board answered several questions about their usage of the parks and what they would like to see for the future of Derby’s parks. Their comments were discussed after the exercise. 1 Motion to adjourn: Jason Griffin moved to adjourn December 12, 2019 PUF meeting. Second: Marty Hunt, second.
