UNAPPROVED DERBY PARK AND URBAN FORESTRY BOARD MINUTES March 12, 2020 Call to Order: 11:00 A. M. Roll Call: Members Present Members Absent David Peebler Seth Berg Sherii Farmer Marty Hunt Jason Griffin Bruce Renberger Rick Dame Also in attendance: Steve White, Joe Loflin, Shana Sneath Approval of Minutes: Motion: Jason Griffin moved to approve the minutes from February 13, 2020 Second: Marty Hunt second. Vote: All yea, motion carried. Open Forum: None Old Business: Decarsky Park Update: Progress slide show of the concrete and sidewalk pavers on the east side of the concession stand. The restroom and concession area are almost complete. The trees are being planted, the turf was delivered but installation was stalled due to the rain. The restrooms at Decarsky Park will be open year-round. Warren Riverview Park: Joe was able to repair the bioswale. The decomposed granite walkway is washing out so the granite will be replaced with cement. The area next to the lodge created for trash receptacles is now being repurposed for storage as the waste management company would not service the area. The trash dumpsters are now located on the south side of the park. Madison Avenue Park: A sidewalk on the north side is being added. Chip Site Update: The annual grinding has been completed. Expiring Terms: Applications for the PUF Board are due March 18. We have one vacancy. 1 New Business: Spring Into Art: We would like to have the Arbor Day celebration at Spring Into Art and plant a tree during the event. A sign- up sheet was distributed to volunteer to help that day with the educational booth that the PUF Board will man. Tree City USA: Derby is a Tree City USA recipient for the 27th year. Dog Park Maintenance/Weather Closure Discussion: Maintaining the park due to the number of dogs the park will be receiving is important. Mr. White asked for opinions on when would the best time to close the park for maintenance. We will need to come up with operating hours of the dog park and maintenance times will need to be considered. Monday mornings seem to be a good time, we may be able to create a Facebook page for the dog park and post rules and hours. Bermuda sod is being installed in the park. The sod could be torn up very quickly if the park is operating when it has rained. Options were discussed for closing the park for bad weather or sectioning off parts of the park to let the grass heal where it could have been damaged.
