UNAPPROVED DERBY PARK AND URBAN FORESTRY BOARD MINUTES August 13, 2020 Call to Order: 11:00 A. M. Roll Call: Members Present Members Absent David Peebler Jason Griffin Matt Beigel Sherii Farmer Marty Hunt Bruce Renberger Rick Dame Also in attendance: Steve White, Joe Loflin, Shana Sneath Approval of Minutes: Motion: Marty Hunt moved to approve the minutes from March 12, 2020 Second: Rick Dame second. Vote: All yea, motion carried. Open Forum: Welcome Matt Beigel. RRR was opened this year, staff did a great job making sure everything was sanitized, attendance goals were met; was a successful year. The 4th of July event was well attended even though modifications had to be made for social distancing. Old Business: Decarsky Park Update: Mr. White presented a slide show reviewing the progress of the park - sod, irrigation, the east entry area, the new banner design, landscaping, ballfields, artificial turf, lighting as well as the dog park and new dock. The dog park will be closed for maintenance on Monday mornings and Tuesdays if City offices are closed. Draft signage for the ballfields and dog park was reviewed. No opening date is set yet for the park. There will be an agreement with the DRC for maintenance of the ballfields. Bark for Life will have a fundraising event on Sept 26 at the Dog Park. New Business: Rock River Rapids: There will be a new slide installed at RRR. This will be a double loop slide. Board members saw pictures of the new slide. Park Projects:  There were 2 goose roundups at High Park; 160 geese were safely removed and rehomed by the USDA.  Sod truckloads of sod were installed at Fire Station 81. 1   New signs were installed at the Stone Creek Disc Golf course warning people to watch out for flying discs. This was a concern as children would be walking through the park to get to the new Stone Creek Elementary School. Events: Spring into Art is cancelled for the Fall, will try to have the event in Spring 2021. A tentative plan for the Tree Lighting is in the works. There will not be a large event this year as in years past at Madison Avenue Central Park. Horticulturist: The Parks Department will be hiring a new Horticulturist in the near future and there will be a groundskeeper opening. Chairwoman Term Extension: Motion by Matt Beigel, seconded by Marty Hunt to extend Sherii Farmer’s position as Chairwoman until next year. All yea, motion carried. Motion to adjourn: Marty Hunt moved to adjourn the August 13, 2020 PUF meeting. Second: Dave Peebler, second. Vote: All yea, motion carried unanimous. End.
