DERBY PARK AND URBAN FORESTRY BOARD MINUTES
December 10, 2020
Call to Order: 11:00 A. M.

Also in attendance: Steve White, Robert Mendoza, Joe Loflin, Shana Sneath
Approval of Minutes:
Motion: Jason Griffin moved to approve the minutes from August 13, 2020
Second: Marty Hunt second.
Vote: All yea, motion carried.
Open Forum: Matt Beigel mentioned a concern about a tree impeding the bike path in Springcreek. Mr. White
informed him it was the responsibility of the HOA to take care of the tree in that area. The City has an HOA
liaison that could assist if need be. Marty Hunt brought up an additional concern about a tree in the median
near The Oaks, city staff will look into it.
Old Business:
Decarsky Park Update: The dog park is open, it is busy, positive reviews so far from the patrons. Slides of the
progression of the park were presented. The Dugout/Complex rules were presented to the board for review.
Motion by Marty Hunt, seconded by Matt Beigel to approve the rules as stated. All yea, motion carried.
Mr. White and Mr. Mendoza explained the Ballfield Management Agreement the City has with the DRC.
Rock River Rapids: A new slide is being installed. Mr. Mendoza presented the plans for the slide to the board
some design reconstruction will need to take place. It will be functioning for the 2021 season.
New Positions: Tana Gerber will be joining the Parks staff as a Horticulturist in January. We will also be hiring a
new Groundskeeper in 2021.

New Business:
Citizen Communication Tools for Trees: Mr. Mendoza spoke about a program for educating citizens about
maintaining trees on their property and who is responsible for such (City or resident), that is being
reenergized. Resident educational flyers have been developed for distribution regarding Sidewalk and Curb
Maintenance, Easements, and Trash and Recycling Cart placement. The process Code Enforcement uses to
handle these violations was explained to the board. Some social media posts will also likely be used in the
future for public education regarding the above mentioned.
Motion to adjourn: Jason Griffin moved to adjourn the December 10, 2020 PUF meeting.
Second: Marty Hunt, second.
Vote: All yea, motion carried unanimous.
