APPROVED SUMMARY MINUTES SENIOR SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD 10:00 A.M. May 7th, 2014 CITY OF DERBY ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE JIM BURGESS TOM DAVIDSON JACK HEMPHILL DUANE DAY DIANE SCHMITT ELEANOR UNDERWOOD CITY STAFF DEE WILLIAM KIM HART Public Forum RE: Advisory Board Appointment Letter. Jim Burgess wanted to know if a corrected appointment letter will be generated since the one the newly appointed Board members received had the wrong terms on it. Dee stated it has been corrected. Agenda Item #1 RE: Department on Aging Survey. Dee Williams informed the Board the Department on Aging was at the DSC on Tuesday May 6th handing our surveys. The survey is asking what seniors are interested in, what centers they are attending, what programs they would like to see happen at the centers. Dee encouraged the Board members to fill out the survey. RE: WSU Driving Study. Dee Williams said that Dr. Ni, WSU Department of Psychology will be coming to the DSC to do a presentation with the results of the driving study. RE: Ping Pong Robot. Dee Williams is meeting with Dr. Ni from WSU; to discuss the continued driving study project and a robot that plays ping pong. It is for hand eye coordination, visual acuity, cognition, mobility and it also helps with balance. RE: After Prom Sponsor. Dee Williams showed the Board a thank you card that she received for their After Prom sponsorship donation. Dee said this event was a success. RE: Public Meeting with the Legislatures. 1 Jim Burgess stated he attended the meeting with the Legislatures and it was clear to him that the local legislatures are not very interested in senior issues or funding anything. He said funding is very tight and probably going to get tighter. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund report for April 2014. Duane Day reported the expenses were $820.13, revenue was $1,327.24, and the ending balance in January was $15,660.51. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee moved to receive and file the Advisory Board Fund report for April 2014. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried. Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve April 2014 Advisory Board Meeting minutes. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion that the minutes from April 2014 be approved. Jim Burgess seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried. Agenda Item #4 RE: Derby Dash Scholarship Fund Report. Dee Williams reviewed the Derby Dash Scholarship Fund report; there were $80 in scholarships used in April. The ending balance is $527. MOTION: Tom moved to receive and file the April 2014 Derby Dash Scholarship Fund report. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: May TNT (Spaghetti with Meat Sauce) Tom Davidson reported the May TNT had 65 paying patrons with 8 volunteers. The net proceeds were $188.96. Agenda Item #6 RE: Advisory Board Manuals. Dee Williams reviewed the 2014 -2015 DSC Advisory Board Manuals in detail with the Board members. 2 Agenda Item #7 RE: Election of Officers. Dee Williams reviewed for the Board the duties of all the officers of the Board. Tom Davidson nominated Diane Schmitt as Treasurer. Duane Day seconded. Jim Burgess moved that nominations ceased. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Duane Day nominated Eleanor Underwood as Chairman. Jim Burgess seconded. Gerald Brownlee moved that nominations ceased. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Gerald Brownlee nominated Duane Day as Vice Chairman. Jim Burgess seconded. Tom Davidson moved that nominations ceased. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Gerald Brownlee nominated Tom Davidson as Secretary. Duane Day seconded. Jim Burgess moved that nominations ceased.
