APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD 10:00 AM December 7th, 2016 CITY OF DERBY ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE JANICE NEAGLE JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIRMAN DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIRMAN CITY STAFF BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Annual Report BreAnna Monk let the Board know the Annual Report will be presented at the City Council meeting on February 14th at 6:30 PM and she requested the Board be in attendance if possible. RE: County Funding Gerald Brownlee asked if the Board members read the article in the Derby Informer. Jim Burgess said nothing has been changed in the County contract. BreAnna said the article was inflated and nothing is being taken from the center. Jim Burgess said it resulted in Commissioner Howell coming to the Derby Senior Center and in February it will be a topic of conversation at the Can We Talk. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report November 2016 Diane Schmitt gave the Advisory Board Fund Report for November 2016. The expenses for November totaled $1,286.93 and contributions were $7,077 with an ending balance of $16051.02. MOTION: Jim Burgess moved to approve and file the Advisory Board Fund Report for November 2016. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 1 RE: Approve November 2, 2016 Advisory Board Meeting minutes MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the minutes from the November 2nd, 2016 Derby Senior Center Advisory Board meeting. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve November 2016 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna Monk gave the report for the November Derby Dash Scholarship Report. There was $248 used in scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $487. Diane Schmitt asked about the Recycle Bank Derby Dash Coupons. Discussion was held and it was decided the Board members could print off Derby Dash Coupons from their Recycle Bank accounts and give those to the Derby Dash Dispatcher monthly. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for November. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Covered Dish Diane Schmitt will pick up the chicken for the January 5th, 2017 Covered Dish Lunch. Agenda Item #6 RE: Homestead Senior Living BreAnna Monk stated she attended a meeting regarding Homestead Senior Living and phase I has been approved with 64 units with 72 applicants. They are now trying to get approval for phase II and have asked BreAnna and the Chairman of the Board to write letters to the company in regards to the need for senior living dwellings in Derby. This will assist in getting approval on phase II. BreAnna said phase I of 64 units will begin construction in August 2017 and be ready in February 2018 to September 2018. BreAnna stated there will be 1 and 2 bedroom units and there will be no minimum on income on the senior living dwellings. Rent will range from $300 to $600 per month which includes water, TV and gas. Pets 30lbs and no bigger will be allowed with the exception of service dogs. To qualify you must be 55 years or older and head of household. Agenda Item #7 RE: Fund Raising Update 2 BreAnna Monk stated approximately $7,400 has been donated to date from the fund raising letter. Discussion was held. Tom Davidson asked about the future of the TNT. Discussion was held and BreAnna stated it went well with the members working as a team. Duane Day asked if in January the TNT could be added back to the agenda. BreAnna said yes and that November and December TNT balance sheets will be provided at that time. Eleanor Underwood stated it was moved to the second Tuesday of the month. BreAnna said she spoke with Kathy Sexton and due to parking Can We Talk will be moved to the second Thursday of the month beginning in January. Agenda Item #8 RE: Cornerstone Committee BreAnna let the Board know the Cornerstone committee will begin meeting in January. Duane Day has volunteered to be part of this committee and they will meet to determine the needs of the senior center and make suggestions on how funds should be used as well as future fund raising. BreAnna stated some of those ideas will be getting new games and furniture. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #9 RE: Volunteer Reception BreAnna reminded the Board the Volunteer Reception is Monday December 12th 12:00 p.m. at the Venue. BreAnna said Kathy Sexton, Mayor and City Council members were invited to Volunteer Reception. BreAnna said she will be recognizing the Board members at the reception. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Duane Day made a motion for adjournment. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried.
