APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD 10:05 AM October 4th, 2017 CITY OF DERBY ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE-ABSENT JANICE NEAGLE JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR - ABSENT DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF TED AUSTIN - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 Open Forum – Administrator’s comments – Board comments Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report September 2017 Diane Schmitt gave the Advisory Board Fund Report for September 2017. The expenses for September totaled $793.82 and the income was $570.80 with an ending balance of $17,980.16. MOTION: Tom Davidson moved to approve and file the Advisory Board Fund Report for September 2017. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve September 6, 2017 Minutes MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the minutes from the September 6th, 2017 Derby Senior Center Advisory Board meetings. Diane Schmitt seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve September 2017 Derby Dash Scholarship Report 1 BreAnna Monk gave the report for the September 2017 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 used in scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $319. MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for September 2017. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: TNT BreAnna Monk gave the TNT report and menu for September 2017, the meal was Pizza Sliders and there was a total of 77 served. The was a total profit of $203.88. BreAnna asked the Board what they wanted to do with the leftovers and it was decided to sell them for up to 24 hours and then put them in the Game Room refrigerator to be given away. It was also decided to make a sign that can be posted when left overs are for sale. MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to approve the TNT Report for September 2017. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #6 RE: Comment Cards BreAnna Monk read the comment / suggestion that was submitted: The suggestion were: How about having a Talent Show with a time limit? Discussion was held and BreAnna said she will entertain the idea. The new wall hangings in the center are beautiful, could it soon extend into the coffee room? The fan is great but the rest of the pictures leave a little to be desired. BreAnna said the pictures in the game room are the history of the center. She said change takes a little time. Agenda Item #7 RE: Chicken Duty – Janice Neagle will pick up the chicken for Covered Dish in October. Agenda Item #8 RE: Center Updates – Rubber Flooring, Pool Table 2 BreAnna Monk let the Board know that the rubber flooring is scheduled to be installed, Friday October 6th, the rubber has been purchased. There is a sign to let the patrons know the room will be closed that day. BreAnna let the Board know a suggestion was made that the pool tables may need to be recovered. After cleaning the tables and after speaking with the owner of Chilton Billiards BreAnna decided at the time she could not justify spending $300 to recover it. Agenda Item #9 RE: Can We Talk Outcome Jim Burgess gave the Board handouts and an overview of his presentation on Sedgwick County Funding for the Senior Centers. Jim gave a breakdown of the levels of senior centers and the funding they received from the county. Jim will be the presenter of Can We Talk – Sedgwick County Senior Centers on Thursday, October 12th. Agenda Item #10 RE: Budget Sheets BreAnna reviewed with the Board, the 2018 budget sheets for the Senior Center. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #11 RE: Covered Dish - Protein Options BreAnna reviewed with the Board different protein options for the Covered Dish Lunch. Discussion was held and it was decided to do a different protein 4 times a year. The Board decided to order a variety of meats from Hog Wild for the November Covered Dish Lunch. MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to approve a variety of meats be provided for the Covered Dish Lunch four times a year. The Board will cover the extra cost of the meat. Tom Davidson seconded.
