APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD 10:05 AM April 4, 2018 CITY OF DERBY ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE - ABSENT JANICE NEAGLE JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF TED AUSTIN - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 Open Forum – Administrator’s comments – Board comments RE: BreAnna Monk Surgery BreAnna Monk let the Board know she is having surgery at 12:30pm today. She said she will be back in the office on Friday. RE: TNT Eleanor Underwood suggested the Advisory Board send a thank you card to Kay Morgan for the great job her and the committee are doing on TNT. Discussion was held and the Board agreed. RE: AARP Tax Help Jim Burgess let the Board know that as of 4/4/18 the volunteer Tax Aide has filed 308 returns. This is a larger amount then last year and they still have 2 and ½ days left to file. BreAnna Monk and the Board thanked Jim for the wonderful service. BreAnna let the Board know the Senior Center will be buying a thank you lunch for the Tax volunteers next week. RE: Zentangle Eggs BreAnna let the Board know the Zentangle Eggs went over very well. The Seniors and their Grandchildren loved it. BreAnna also said in the future there will be more activities planned for Seniors and their Grandchildren. RE: Flavored Hot Tea 1 Farmers Brothers has delivered the Hot Teas the Board ordered. Kim said she will create a cost structure to bring to the next Board meeting so the Board can determine what to charge for each tea bag. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report March 2018. Diane Schmitt gave the report for March 2018. The expenses for March totaled $1,683.41 and the revenue totaled $670 with an ending balance $14,838.23. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the Advisory Board Fund Report March, 2018. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve March 7, 2018 Minutes. MOTION: Diane Schmitt made a motion to approve the March 7th, 2018 Minutes. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve March 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna Monk gave the report for the March 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $100 in donations were received in March and $24 used for scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $299. MOTION: Tom Davidson made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for March 2018. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: TNT BreAnna Monk gave the TNT report and menu for March 2018, the meal was Pork Tenderloin and there was a total of 68 served. There was a total profit of 227.88. 2 Agenda Item #6 RE: Comment Cards BreAnna Monk read the Comment Cards to the Advisory Board. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #7 RE: Covered Dish Janice Neagle will pick up the chicken for the April Covered Dish Lunch. Agenda Item #8 RE: Center Updates BreAnna said she is looking to get some new furniture for the Commons Area. BreAnna said she is looking at getting ergonomically, comfortable and non-fabric furniture. Discussion was held. BreAnna said she will replace one setting at a time and will bring some examples for the Board to review. BreAnna said she is looking into installing Safety Bathroom Bars in each restroom stall. Discussion was held and BreAnna said she will make sure these are ADA compliant. Agenda Item #9 RE: Can We Talk – Long Term Care 101 BreAnna Monk said this program will be April 12th at 6:00pm. BreAnna said there will be information on Care for the Care Giver and family members are all welcome to attend. There will be Advance Directive Forms available. Agenda Item #10 RE: Board Fund Raiser – Nacho Machine BreAnna Monk asked the Board Members how they felt about a Nacho Machine and a Chili Cheese Machine that could be used for fund raising events. Discussion was held. BreAnna said some of the events where this could be used are Community Dances, Evening Bingo and evening activities. BreAnna stated we have already purchased a Hot Dog machine and Popcorn machine. BreAnna said all money made will go to the Board. BreAnna said she will bring a cost structure for the Board to review at the next Board meeting. Agenda Item #11 RE: Garden Club 3 BreAnna Monk said she is expecting a call from the DRC with the starting date for the Garden Club. The Master Gardener will be there the first day to assist. BreAnna said she will get veggie bins and there will be a limit that will be given out on Panera Bread day. BreAnna said this is part of her “No Senior Left Hungry” program.
