APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY May 2, 2018, 10:05 AM ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE JANICE NEAGLE JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER - ABSENT TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF TED AUSTIN - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 Open Forum – Administrator’s comments – Board comments RE: 2018 Tax Help Jim Burgess let BreAnna and Board know the 2018 AARP Tax Volunteers prepared and filed 419 tax returns and helped about 600 patrons at the Derby Senior Center. BreAnna thanked Jim for all of his hard work. RE: Flavored Hot Tea BreAnna handed out a price break down of the Flavored Hot Tea bags purchased from Farmers Brothers. Based on the cost of the tea the price for each bag was set at .25¢. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report April 2018. Duane Day gave the report for April 2018. The expenses for April totaled $1,287.66 and the revenue totaled $711.00 with an ending balance $14,261.57. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the Advisory Board Fund Report April 2018. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve April 4, 2018 Minutes. 1 MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the April 4th, 2018 Minutes. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve April 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna Monk gave the April 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $24 were used for scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $275. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for April 2018. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: TNT BreAnna Monk gave the TNT report and menu for April 2018, the meal was Macaroni and Cheese Ham Bake and there was a total of 61 served. There was a total profit of 155.24. Agenda Item #6 RE: Comment Cards BreAnna Monk read the Comment Cards to the Advisory Board. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #7 RE: Covered Dish Diane Schmitt will pick up chicken for the May 3rd Covered Dish. Jim Burgess will pick up chicken for the June 7th Covered Dish. Agenda Item #8 RE: Center Updates BreAnna gave the Board a couple examples of Bingo Machines to look at for the Night Bingo and the Sesquicentennial Bingo. Discussion was held. 2 MOTION: Gerald Brownlee moved to approve the purchase a Bingo Machine. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried RE: Chili Cheese Warmer BreAnna gave the Board a handout on a Chili Cheese Warmer to be used as a fundraiser for the Board. Discussion was held. BreAnna stated she will have to get a license for the senior center to host the Bingo. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee made a motion to purchase a Chili Cheese Warmer. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #9 RE: Can We Talk – Senior Safety Systems BreAnna Monk said this program will be May10th at 6:00pm. BreAnna stated this Can We Talk will be information dealing with the Smart Technologies and Smart Homes. Agenda Item #10 RE: TNT – Summer Break BreAnna Monk asked the Board Members how they felt about TNT taking a summer break for July and August. Discussion was held. Kim Hart stated that Kay Morgan asked Kim to thank the Board for the card. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion that TNT takes a summer break the months of July and August. The TNT will start back up in September Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #11 RE: Garden Club BreAnna Monk said she is working on the second Garden Club meeting. BreAnna said the club has six members and 4 plots were donated for their garden. BreAnna has had signs made to mark the Derby Senior Center Garden. 3 Agenda Item #12 RE: June Advisory Board Meeting BreAnna Monk let the Board know she will be at a conference the first week in June. BreAnna asked if the Board would want to postpone the June meeting for a week. MOTION: Tom Davidson made a motion the June 2018 Advisory Board Meeting be moved to June 13th. Janice Neagle seconded.
