UNAPPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY August 14, 2019, 9:10 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS JANICE NEAGLE DIXIE CHAPMAN DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: DRC Partnership BreAnna Monk let the Board know she has been working on new classes for the senior center. The DRC and the senior center are building a relationship where their instructors will teach classes here as a satellite location or our members will go into the community to participate in programs. Some of the classes to be offered are: Enjoy the Walk – This walking program will begin September 9th and will meet at different locations in Derby. There will be maps given out to show the loops and locations. The walks will be 1 mile to 1 ½ mile and include exercise and stretching. Life in Motion – This class will start Tuesday October 1st at the Derby Senior Center. The class will be a primary muscle, fitness and cardio class. This will have a live instructor from the DRC. Class will take place 10:30 am to 11:15 am. Tai Chi - BreAnna said in the future the DRC and senior center are looking at getting a regular Tai Chi class with instructor. There is a large need for a regular Tai Chi class at the senior center. Please Stay Seated – This class will be done from a chair and will benefit members who cannot do the full exercise classes. Water Exercise Class – This class will take place on Thursdays and will be a water yoga class. Everyone will be bused from the senior center and dropped off at DRC for the class. Dixie Chapman asked if they will be reviewing the tapes being used daily. BreAnna said yes this is the plan as well as checking out our exercise equipment to see what is already at the senior 1 center. They will see what is being done and create a routine around our current programs. Discussion was held. BreAnna said she is working with Chris, Susie and Aimee at the DRC. RE: County Audit BreAnna let the Board know she met with Stacy Nilles from the Department on Aging, and Kiel Mangus the Deputy City Manager for the annual audit. BreAnna said we passed and Stacy was very pleased with what is going on at the Derby Senior Center. RE: City of Derby Budget Kiel Mangus let the Board know it was budget time and at this time there were no senior center cuts. Kiel also stated that there is a Grant for the Derby Dash and a new bus will be purchased in 2021. RE: New Fire Station Tours Duane Day asked BreAnna if the Senior Center would be setting up tours of the new Fire Station and Hospital. BreAnna said they were going to be looking into tours for the seniors of the new Fire Station and the new Rock Regional Hospital. Kiel said they have been working on a list of services that are offered at the new Hospital and then they will share that information with the senior center members. The hospital is set up to accept Medicare patients. BreAnna said she is working with Barry Beus to speak at a Can We Talk. RE: Gerald Brownlee BreAnna said she is planning a time that the Board can present Gerald with his plaque for serving on the Advisory Board. BreAnna asked the Board to get back with us on the days they are available Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report July 2019. Diane Schmitt gave the report for July 2019. The revenue totaled $752.15 expenses for July 2019 totaled $841.18 with an ending balance $11,402.08. MOTION: Tom Davidson made a motion to approve the Advisory Board Fund Report for July 2019. Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 6 yea motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve July 10, 2019 minutes. 2 MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the July 10, 2019 minutes. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve July 2019 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the July 2019 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for senior scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $131. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby Dash Scholarship Program $684 used, for an ending balance of $1,248. Discussion was held. MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for July 2019. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Covered Dish Chicken Covered Dish Lunch September 5 – Dixie Chapman Covered Dish Lunch October 3 – Janice Neagle Agenda Item #6 RE: Progressive Bingo Concessions BreAnna reviewed the Progressive Bingo Concession and the Supplies reports with the Board. BreAnna said the concession expense for July was $106.56 and Revenue was $88 for a balance of (231.98). The Progressive Bingo Card Sales Revenue was $1690 with a payout of $640. The balance in Progressive Bingo Supplies and Card Sales is $2,908.56. There were two Progressive Bingo events in the month of July. Agenda Item #7 RE: Center Updates BreAnna told the Board there were no center updates in the month of July. Agenda Item #8 RE: Suggestions / Comment Cards BreAnna reviewed the suggestion / comment cards with the Board. Discussion was held. 3 Agenda Item #9 RE: Fundraising Letter Update BreAnna told the Board the donation letter proceeds are $6,830. RE: Senior Center Funding Jim Burgess gave a presentation to the Board members with handouts on the 2019 Budget, Senior Center Funding and County Commission Districts. Discussion was held.
