UNAPPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY November 13, 2019, 9:15 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS JANICE NEAGLE DIXIE CHAPMAN DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: October Requests BreAnna let the Board know she spoke with Stacy and Monica from the Department on Aging and was told there is no funds available for technology. Jim Burgess said there had been some funding available from the county but may no longer be available. Discussion was held. RE: Austin Room Temperature BreAnna stated she has requested the thermostat in the Austin be looked at. BreAnna said it will remain the same. RE: Window Washing and Bird Nest Removal BreAnna let the Advisory Board know the window cleaning and bird nest removal has been requested and is pending. RE: Wipe Front Bench and Blow off Leaves BreAnna stated there is a new volunteer that comes to the Senior Center to take care of this job. RE: Volunteer Reception BreAnna stated the 2019 Volunteer Reception will be held on December 10th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The event will be held at the Madison Avenue Central Park Venue. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report October 2019. 1 Diane Schmitt gave the report for October 2019. The revenue totaled $0, expenses totaled $151.46, with an ending balance $10,438.05. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the Advisory Board Fund Report for October 2019. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve October, 2019 minutes. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the October 11, 2019 minutes. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve October 2019 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the October 2019 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for senior scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $131. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby Dash Scholarship Program used $130, for an ending balance of $738. Discussion was held. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for October 2019. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: TNT November BreAnna stated TNT was Chicken Dressing Bake. Profit was $126.50 a total of 75 paying patrons and volunteers were served. Tom Davidson said Sharon would like to advertise the TNT more. Sharon would like a little more support and profit and suggested a price increase or making a less expensive meal. Discussion was held. Eleanor Underwood stated the Board is very appreciative for the TNT committee’s hard work. Eleanor said the TNT is set up as a fellowship event and is very successful. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to increase the TNT to $6 starting in January. Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried 2 Agenda Item #6 RE: Covered Dish Chicken Covered Dish Lunch December 5th – Jim Burgess Covered Dish Lunch January 7th – Diane Schmidt Covered Dish Lunch February 6th – Tom Davidson Agenda Item #7 RE: Progressive Bingo Concessions BreAnna reviewed the Progressive Bingo Concession and the Supplies reports with the Board. BreAnna said the concession expense for October was $30.14 and revenue was $86.75 for a balance of (205.31). The Progressive Bingo Card Sales Revenue was $628. with a payout of $289. The balance in Progressive Bingo Supplies after expenses of $0 is $3,643.86. Discussion was held. BreAnna said there were jumbo hot dogs and buns donated from the Rotary Club for the next Progressive Bingo. MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion to approve the Progressive Bingo Concession and Card Sales reports. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #8 RE: Center Updates BreAnna stated she got estimates on the new Technology Lab. BreAnna explained all the changes that will happen in the technology lab. BreAnna has applied for a grant with the Community Foundation and has a member that has offered to head up a fund-raising committee. BreAnna let the Board know she wants them to be involved in the meetings. Discussion was held. BreAnna let the Board know there is a new piece of exercise equipment called the DB Method/ squat machine. BreAnna said Larry Howard from facility maintenance is working with her on a way to make it a little more stable by anchoring it to the floor. Agenda Item #9 RE: Suggestions / Comment Cards BreAnna stated there were no suggestions or comment cards this month. Agenda Item #10 RE: Accreditation 2021 3 BreAnna let the Advisory board know the accreditation process will begin in January 2020. BreAnna asked Jim Burgess and Janice Neagle if they would help again since they were on the committee during the last accreditation. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #11 RE: Senior Celebration BreAnna stated the Derby High School sent a letter to ask for donations for their Senior Celebration. BreAnna let the Board know last year they donated $100 to the Senior Celebration. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to donate $100 to the Derby High School Senior Celebration. Janice Neagle seconded.
