RE: Kansas Farmers Market Coupons
BreAnna explained to the board that she has received the 2020 Kansas Farmers Market Coupons.
These coupons are being distributed to patrons that qualify for them. If they cannot make it into
the senior center, the application can be mailed out and also the coupons once the application is
returned. The coupons can be used starting July1st through September 30th.
RE: Free Tablets
BreAnna stated she is checking with the county on a program that provides seniors with free
refurbished tablets if they do not have tablets.
RE: Attendance
Jim Burgess asked BreAnna about the attendance this June in comparison to last June. BreAnna
stated that due to Covid-19 attendance is way down. She said 2019 attendance was
approximately 200 to 400 people per day and June 2020 is approximately 190 per week. The
county is aware of these numbers and will take that into consideration. BreAnna stated the semi-
annual report was completed and turned in.

RE: Advisory Board Fund Report March through June 2020.
Duane Day gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report March through June 2020.
Duane said there was $260 in contributions and $1,522.72 in expenses for a total balance $5,494.
MOTION: Jim Burgess moved the Advisory Board Fund Report for March through June 2020
be approved. Dixie Chapman seconded.
VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried

RE: Approve March 11, 2020 Minutes.
MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the March 11, 2020 minutes,
Tom Davidson seconded.

RE: Approve March through June 2020 Derby Dash Scholarship Report
BreAnna gave the March through June 2020 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for
senior scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $131. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby
Dash Scholarship Program used $396 for an ending balance of $564.
MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for
March through June 2020. Dixie Chapman seconded.
VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried

RE: Center Updates
BreAnna stated she is still working on funding for the Technology Lab. BreAnna said she was
denied for a grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield because we do not hold a 501C3. BreAnna
is working on other grants. BreAnna told the board that she has already received a couple other
donations for the Technology Lab.
RE: Treadmill
BreAnna let the board know one of the Treadmills is broken and she was given a quote of $750 -
$800 to fix it. BreAnna said she checking into purchasing a used treadmill from the DRC.
Discussion was held and it was suggested to purchase a new one since it is used so often.
BreAnna is checking on the best cost-effective option used and new. BreAnna stated she
possibly could get a grant for a new one.

RE: Suggestion Cards
BreAnna said there were two suggestion cards with 3 requests.

1. 8:10 classes should not begin before 8:10. BreAnna said she will check on this to see if
they have been starting early.
2. The women’s restroom vents need to be cleaned. BreAnna said we will purchase a
telescopic duster to clean all the restroom vents.
3. The exercise class participants would like Clorox wipes to wipe down the weights.

RE: Can we Talk – Town Hall Local
Can we Talk – Town Hall State - Cancelled
BreAnna stated the Can We Talk – Town Hall Local went well. The Town Hall State was
cancelled. BreAnna will work on future Town Halls and ways to increase attendance.
Discussion was held and Jim Burgess suggested more advertising in the Informer possibly a
block ad. Another idea was for a story about Can We Talk’s to be ran in the Derby Informer.
One more suggestion was from Janice Neagle to have an insert in the water bill to reach more
people with information about the Can We Talk programs.

RE: Covid-19
BreAnna let the board know about all the social distancing measures that are being taken at the
senior center to deal with the Coronavirus Pandemic. These measures are all compliant with the
Sedgwick County Department on Aging. The Department on Aging has strongly recommended
senior center stay closed until phase III of the Governor’s plan which was one week before we
opened. These steps include social distancing, hand sanitizing stations, mandatory face masks
and temperature checks at every visit to the senior center. BreAnna also said she is looking into
internet classes and webinars for future programming.

RE: Board Funding
Murder Mystery Dinner - BreAnna let the board know she has received the packet for the
Murder Mystery Dinner board fundraiser. Discussion was held and the board decided the price
would be $15 each.
Fund Raising Letter - Jim Burgess suggested another Fund-Raising Letter be mailed out and
BreAnna confirmed this will be mailed out the end of 2020.
New Ideas – BreAnna asked the board to bring any new ideas they come up with to the August
Advisory Board Meeting.

RE: Meeting To do List
Aging Projects Inc - BreAnna stated she had been in touch with Rosie and Rory with Aging
Projects Inc. They are happy to meet with the board to talk about financials. Discussion was
held and BreAnna said she will contact them to see if they can attend the August board meeting
to discuss financials.
Can We Talk – Joe Stump – BreAnna said she will be working on getting Joe Stump to speak at
a future Can We Talk. Joe Stump is a writer for the Active Age publication.
Welcome Center Entry Safety - BreAnna let the board know that Ted Austin is checking into
painting the steps to the Welcome Center with a reflective paint.
Advisory Board Applications – Kiel Mangus let the board know the returning board members
were reappointed in April at a City Council Meeting. BreAnna stated the Election of Officers
will take place at the August Advisory Board meeting.
Laura Friend Retirement – BreAnna let the board know that Laura Friend will remain at the
senior center, as the Activity Coordinator.
WSU Women’s Basketball – BreAnna let the board know at this time there are no trips being
planned due to Covid-19. BreAnna did say in the future there are plans to attend some of the
WSU women’s basketball games.
Panera Bread and Starbucks – BreAnna stated Panera Bread and Starbucks donations are being
offered again at the senior center. These programs have just started back up this week.
Progressive Bingo – BreAnna said there will be Progressive Bingo on the 23rd of July. Social
distancing will be in place and concessions will only serve packaged snacks and free water.
