APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY March 11, 2020 9:20 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS JANICE NEAGLE DIXIE CHAPMAN DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Activity Revenue-Expense Report BreAnna gave the board a copy of the 2019 Revenue-Expense Report. BreAnna explained the report and discussion was held. BreAnna said she will provide the board a copy of the Revenue- Expense Report every six months. RE: WSU Women’s Basketball games BreAnna stated she is looking into trips in the future during the basketball season for the WSU Women’s basketball games. RE: Laura Friend Resignation BreAnna let the board know the Activity Coordinator Laura Friend has given her resignation. Laura will be leaving the Derby Senior Center March 27th and there will be a reception in the Austin Room from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. BreAnna assured the board that activities will continue and she is conducting interviews for that position. Discussion was held and a gift was suggested. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to purchase a $50 gift card and also get a plaque for Laura from the board for her years of service. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried RE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) BreAnna explained to the board that due to the recent Coronavirus (COVID-19) there will be no more out of state trips scheduled. In May she will assess the situation and decide if out of state trips can resume. BreAnna also stated the city is monitoring the situation and she will keep the board advised of any decisions regarding the senior center. 1 RE: Can We Talk – Joe Stump BreAnna let Jim Burgess and the board know she is still considering Joe Stump to speak at one of the upcoming Can We Talk’s. RE: The Ceiling Vents Cleaned BreAnna stated she has reported the dirty ceiling vents to Ted Austin, Operations Manager. Discussion was held about the cleanliness of the senior center and what could be done about this. This included cleaning windows and wiping down counters. BreAnna stated there is now hand sanitizer being taken to the exercise classes for the seniors to use. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to add an Agenda Item on the April Agenda to follow up on the cleanliness issues. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried. RE: Welcome Center Entry Eleanor Underwood asked if there is anything that can be done for the entry way into the Welcome Center. There have been at least a couple seniors that have fallen on the stairs that are over to the side of the entrance. The steps are not marked and are dangerous. Discussion was held and BreAnna said she will report this to Ted to see if he can use some reflective paint on the stairs and possibly a railing put in. RE: 2020- 2021 Advisory Board Terms Jim Burgess asked if BreAnna had received the applications yet to renew the DSC Advisory Board positions yet for Jim, Diane and Eleanor, BreAnna stated she will have them at the next board meeting. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report February 2020. Kim Hart gave the report for January 2020 and explained about the items that were in question. Kim said the items that say 2019 Accts Payable year end adjustment were bills from 2019 that were paid in 2020. These bills were adjusted back to the year 2019. Diane Schmitt gave the Advisory Board Fund Report February 2020. Diane said there were $961 in contributions and $597.26 in expenses for a total balance $6,786.81. MOTION: Duane Day moved to table the Advisory Board Fund Report for February 2020 be accepted. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried 2 Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve February 2020 Minutes. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the February 2020 minutes, Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve February 2020 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the February 2020 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for senior scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $131. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby Dash Scholarship Program used $170 for an ending balance of $918. MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for February 2020. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: TNT March BreAnna stated the March TNT was canceled due to lack of patrons signing up. BreAnna read a resignation letter from Sharon Davidson as head of the TNT fundraiser. Discussion was held. MOTION: Diane Schmitt moved to suspend the TNT fundraiser for the next two months. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #6 RE: Progressive Bingo Concessions MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion the Advisory Board no longer fund the expenses for the Progressive Bingo concessions. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #7 3 RE: Covered Dish Chicken Covered Dish Lunch April 2nd – Dixie Chapman Covered Dish Lunch May 7th – Eleanor Underwood Agenda Item #8 RE: Center Updates Technology Lab - BreAnna stated that she is still working on raising funds to pay for the new Technology Lab. Pool Tables - BreAnna stated it was reported the pool tables were unlevel, Chilton Billiards came out and leveled them and said they needed to be re-felted. Discussion was held. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion for the board to pay to have the pool tables re-leveled and re-felted. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #9 RE: Suggestions / Comment Cards BreAnna said there were no suggestion cards this month. Agenda Item #10 RE: Can We Talk BreAnna stated Thursday March 12, 2020 is Can We Talk is at 6:00 PM and the topic is Local Government – City/County Representatives. BreAnna encouraged the board to attend. Janice Neagle stated she saw it advertised on Facebook. BreAnna said Kristy Bansemer with the City is now advertising senior center events on Facebook. April 2020 – State Government – BreAnna stated the panel for this can we talk will be the State Representatives. BreAnna also encouraged the board members to ask questions and attend these meetings.
