APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY December 9, 2020 9:17 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS JANICE NEAGLE DIXIE CHAPMAN DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Duane Day BreAnna stated that Duane Day resigned as DSC Advisory Board Vice Chairman. She said she will be recruiting for his replacement. RE: AYAR (Are You All Right) BreAnna stated the AYAR calling program is going to be promoted so that seniors can feel connected to others. Seniors can sign up to be called daily by a volunteer. RE: RSVP Driving Program BreAnna said they are looking for drivers for this program and at this time they only have two. This program is where an insured volunteer will drive seniors to appointments outside of Derby. Jim Burgess suggested a flyer or another article in the Prime Times Newsletter to inform the members about the program. BreAnna said she will have signs posted in the center and write a piece in her article. RE: iPads BreAnna let the Board know the Department on Aging has set up a loaner program with AT&T and T-Mobile. This program will loan seniors iPads and they need to take out insurance on the iPad. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report October 2020. Advisory Board Fund Report November 2020. 1 Diane Schmitt gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report October 2020. Diane said there was $6,528 in revenue and $3,695.14 in expenses for a total balance $8,391.45. Diane Schmitt gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report November 2020. Diane said there was $2,075 in revenue and $0 in expenses for a total balance $10,466.45. MOTION: Jim Burgess moved the Advisory Board Fund Report for October and November 2020 be approved; Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve October 14, 2020 Minutes. MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to approve the October 14, 2020 minutes, Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve October and November 2020 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the October 2020 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for senior scholarships. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby Dash Scholarship Program used $200 for an ending balance of $400. BreAnna gave the November 2020 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for senior scholarships. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby Dash Scholarship Program used $200 for an ending balance of $200. BreAnna stated she will be working on a Grant for Derby Dash scholarships. MOTION: Tom Davidson made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for October 2020. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Volunteer Reception BreAnna stated there will be no Volunteer Reception due to COVID-19. Instead there will be a “Drive by Volunteer Reception”. The Volunteer will drive by and receive a Derby Senior Center umbrella and certificate. BreAnna presented each Board Member with a gift card in appreciation for their service. 2 Agenda Item #6 RE: Suggestion Cards BreAnna said there were no suggestion cards at this time. Agenda Item #7 RE: Covid-19 BreAnna let the Board know some COVID-19 updates that are being put in place. No groups larger than 25 are gathering at the senior center. Progressive Bingo has been canceled until further notice due to the 25-person limit. Face masks are being enforced while in the senior center for all events with the exception of the exercise classes. BreAnna stated there have been a few members that have now tested positive but they were responsible and contacted her. Patrons that were in the same activities were notified. BreAnna said the Police now have 3rd shift located in the senior center classroom again until further notice. The board members were concerned about being moved out of the Austin room for City training classes and blood drives. BreAnna said it is necessary to share these spaces as long as COVID is spiking. Agenda Item #8 RE: Board Funding BreAnna let the Board know the Fundraising Letter as of December 8, 2020 has brought in $8,688 in donations and expenses totaled $1838.28 for a profit of $6849.75. Agenda Item #9 RE: Accreditation BreAnna stated the first Accreditation committee meetings are done. The second round of meetings which will run 2 hours and will start in the next few weeks. BreAnna said NCOA informed her our Accreditation needs to be completed by April 1, 2021. Agenda Item #10 RE: Sedgwick County Report BreAnna stated the contract from Sedgwick County Department on Aging is now with our legal department for review. Once they are done it will go before the City Council for approval. Jim Burgess let the Board know the Council for the Department on Aging has only met twice since COVID-19 started. Jim stated there may be funding changes next year but 2021 will remain the same. Jim said the next meeting be in January and it will be Zoom. Discussion was 3 held and the seniors expressed how important the senior center is to mental as well as physical health. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion to adjourn. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Meeting adjourned at 10:16 AM.
