APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY February 10, 2021 9:07 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER DIXIE CHAPMAN ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIRMAN TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY - ABSENT MARSHA VOLZ JANICE NEAGLE CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Prime Times Newsletter BreAnna let the Board members know that the Prime Times Newsletter is getting a new look. BreAnna and Laura Friend have been meeting with Kristy Bansemer to update the newsletter. The name will remain Prime Times but it will have a new look, appeal and layout. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report January 2021. Diane Schmitt gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report January 2021. Diane said there was $56 in revenue and $100 in expenses for a total balance $18,079, 97. MOTION: Dixie Chapman moved the Advisory Board Fund Report for January 2021 be approved: Marsha Volz seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve January 13, 2021 Minutes. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the January 13, 2021 minutes. Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve January 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report 1 BreAnna gave the January 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for senior scholarships. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby Dash Scholarship Program used $312 for an ending balance of $36. BreAnna state she has reached out to 2 organizations for funds to help with Derby Dash scholarships. BreAnna also stated that Sonya Dalton the Dispatcher has been driving the Derby Dash #2 to pick up people for medical appointments and dialysis since we do not want to turn away these patrons. MOTION: Diane Schmitt made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for January 2021. Marsha Volz seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Suggestion Cards BreAnna read the only suggestion and it stated there was too much talking during the Cardio Core and More exercise class on Fridays. The suggestion card stated this is taking place in the back row and it is rude to the instructor. Discussion was held and it was decided to look into headsets for the instructors. BreAnna will also talk to the instructor and Cardio Core and More class again. Agenda Item #6 RE: COVID-19 Updates BreAnna said the Derby Senior Center was awarded a $3,000 grant from Kansas Beats the Virus. BreAnna said the name of this program is Operation Engage and 102 care packages were distributed to the home bound patrons. These care bags included exercise weights, balls and bands along with other items like sanitizer, gloves and masks. This is a way to bring exercise to the home. There was also educational information provided in each bag. RE: Tablets BreAnna let the Board know the free tablets have been distributed to approximately 40 homebound members. This was a way to connect patrons to the outside world during the COVID-19 pandemic. RE: Channel 7 Exercise Classes BreAnna mentioned that she is working with Kristy Bansemer to have Channel 7 air the DSC exercise classes. This is a way to bring healthy exercise options into the senior’s homes. BreAnna will post the schedule of classes in the Prime Times newsletter. BreAnna also stated that marketing is working on posting classes on Facebook. She said the classes are already on line. 2 RE: Police located in Senior Center BreAnna said she is waiting to hear from Kiel Mangus how long the Police will be located in the Senior Center. Discussion was held. RE: Vaccine Distribution BreAnna let the Board know she would like for the Senior Center to be a distribution site for the vaccine. RE: Pool Room BreAnna let the Board know the Pool Room is now open. The patrons must socially distance and sanitize their hands. Agenda Item #7 RE: National Accreditation BreAnna let the Board know she has scheduled meetings for the National Accreditation. Purpose and Planning will meet February 11th at 9:00 am and Governance will meet February 16th at 1:00 pm. BreAnna said she has a WSU Intern and Marsha Volz who will assist in the final steps of the Accreditation. Agenda Item #8 RE: Roberts Rule of Meetings BreAnna reviewed a hand out for Roberts Rule of Order with the Board. Discussion was held Agenda Item #9 RE: Advisory Board Positions BreAnna reviewed with the Advisory Board changes to the description of the Board Positions. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to submit changes and revisit the Board-position descriptions at the next Advisory Board meeting in March. Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #10 RE: Vice Chairman Position 3 BreAnna asked for nominations to fill the Vice Chairman position on the Advisory Board. BreAnna mentioned that Dixie Chapman was interested in the position. MOTION: Jim Burgess moved to accept Dixie Chapman as Vice Chairman by acclamation. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #11 RE: Senior Celebration BreAnna showed the Board a letter from the Derby High School Senior Celebration asking for donations in support of the Derby High School Senior Celebration. BreAnna stated in past years the Board has donated $100 in support. Discussion was held. MOTION: Dixie Chapman moved the Advisory Board donated $100 to the Derby High School Senior Celebration: Marsha Volz seconded. VOTE: 3 yea, 1 nay motion carried ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to adjourn. Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Meeting adjourned at 11:18 AM.
