APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY March 10, 2021 9:11 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER DIXIE CHAPMAN – VICE CHAIRMAN ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIRMAN TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY MARSHA VOLZ JANICE NEAGLE CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Derby Police BreAnna let the Board members know she received an email from Chief Lee that they will vacate the Senior Center classroom on the first of April. RE: Headsets BreAnna stated we are still checking on headsets for the Instructors of the exercise classes. RE: Channel 7 Exercise Class BreAnna explained that the Exercise Class is in the process of being put on Channel 7 so patrons can exercise at home. RE: Name Tags BreAnna said the Advisory Board name tags are being ordered and they should be here by the next board meeting. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report February 2021. Diane Schmitt gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report February 2021. Diane said there was $0 in revenue and $0 in expenses for a total balance $18,079, 97. MOTION: Tom Davidson moved the Advisory Board Fund Report for February 2021 be approved: Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried 1 Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve February 10, 2021 Minutes. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the February 13, 2021 minutes. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve February 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the February 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for senior scholarships. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby Dash Scholarship Program used $372 for an ending balance of $2,476. BreAnna stated there were 3 donations in February for the Derby Dash scholarship program. Vicki Decarsky donated $500, Margaret Noller donated $500 and the Derby Rotary Club donated $1,500. MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for February 2021. Diane Schmitt seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Suggestion Cards BreAnna stated there were no Suggestion or Comment Cards at this time. Agenda Item #6 RE: COVID-19 Updates BreAnna said the Derby Senior Center was awarded a $3,000 grant from Kansas Beats the Virus. BreAnna said the name of this program is Operation Engage and 102 care packages were distributed to the home bound patrons. These care bags included exercise weights, balls and bands along with other items like sanitizer, gloves and masks. This is a way to bring exercise to the home. There was also educational information provided in each bag. BreAnna let the Board know the Derby Senior Center will continue to follow the same COVID- 19 Guide lines until the Department on Aging notifies us of any changes. BreAnna mentioned that a lot of the senior centers in the area just opened back up last week. They had been closed since March 2020. 2 Agenda Item #7 RE: National Accreditation BreAnna let the Board know she is going to schedule Accreditation meetings and will be holding 2 a week for the Committees that still need to meet. Once they are complete the next step is to compile and type the information. BreAnna stated Marsha Volz has volunteered to help with this process. Agenda Item #8 RE: Advisory Board Positions BreAnna gave copies of the revised Advisory Board Position description to review. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the Board-position descriptions with the revisions. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #9 RE: Cons and Scams BreAnna handed out information regarding some new cons and scams that are going around that target senior citizens. Discussion was held. BreAnna asked the Board to be aware of these types of scams. Agenda Item #10 RE: Computer Lab BreAnna let the Board know she is looking at purchasing new computers for the senior center computer room. The new computer lab is going to be fully ADA compliant with computers for the seniors with low vision and are hearing impaired. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Tom Davidson made a motion to adjourn. Diane Schmitt seconded.
