APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY July 14, 2021 9:12 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER DIXIE CHAPMAN – VICE CHAIRMAN ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIRMAN TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY MARSHA VOLZ JANICE NEAGLE CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Thank You Card Laura Friend BreAnna shared a thank you card from Laura Friend to the Board. RE: Projector Screen BreAnna stated she spoke with Kiel Mangus about an interruption in the use of the Austin Room projection screen. Kiel said the city has a portable screen that will be set up for use while the Austin Room is under construction. RE: Austin Room Tables BreAnna told the Advisory Board she had an email from Ted Austin to state Facility Maintenance is shorthanded and the tables will remain up at this time and pushed to the side of the room. RE: Goessel Kansas Trip BreAnna said Amy is working on a trip for the end of August to Goessel Kansas. This will be the first trip the Derby Senior Center has taken since 2019. RE: Flowers BreAnna said there are new flower pots in the front of the senior center and flowers will be planted this week. BreAnna will ask Renee Pray the Workforce employee to monitor the flowers. RE: Horseshoe Pit 1 BreAnna said the city will be building a horseshoe pit on the West side of the building. They will also be installing a fence in August or September. RE: Department on Aging Focus Group BreAnna said she was in a focus group in 2018 with WSU and did not receive any of the findings from the study. Jim Burgess came across the results and sent them to BreAnna. BreAnna will be sure the Board members get a copy of the emailed results. Jim Burgess was discussing some of the results. Tom Davidson asked if Jim Howell could come address the Board’s questions at a future board meeting. BreAnna said she would check into this. RE: “50th Celebration” / Mayor on the Grill Kay Morgan showed the Board a T-Shirt for the 50th Celebration of Music Theater. The Board discussed getting T-shirts made for the 50th Celebration of the senior center. BreAnna will check into getting these made for the Board Members and Staff. RE: Card Bingo Marsha Volz let the Board know that Card Bingo had a great turn out but it was hard to hear the facilitator at times. BreAnna said we can provide her a microphone to use so everyone can hear. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report June 2021. Diane Schmitt gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report June 2021. Diane reported there was $224 in revenue and $166.20 in expenses for a total balance $12,463.21. MOTION: Tom Davidson moved the Advisory Board Fund Report for June 2021 be approved: Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve June 9, 2021 Minutes. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the June 9, 2021 minutes. Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve June 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report 2 BreAnna gave the June 2021 Derby Dash Non-Senior Scholarships used was $80 leaving a balance of $1,578. BreAnna stated June 2021 no senior center funds were used, leaving a balance of $131. MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for June 2021. Marsha Volz seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Suggestion Cards BreAnna said there were no suggestion or comments this month. Agenda Item #6 RE: COVID-19 Updates BreAnna stated there are new signs posted regarding the new mask wearing policy which state you do not have to wear a mask in the City buildings if you have been vaccinated. The Department on Aging has approved senior trips to proceed with caution. Agenda Item #7 RE: Senior Garden BreAnna stated the garden box supplies have been delivered with the exception of a fence and garden equipment. BreAnna has received a Grant for $2000 from The Community foundation and a Grant from Neighborhood Walmart for $500. BreAnna said she is waiting to see if other grants are approved. Jim Burgess suggested putting an add in the Informer to ask for donations. Agenda Item #8 RE: Classroom Mirrors BreAnna stated the mirror wall was installed and asked the Board to stop by the classroom and look at them. BreAnna was pleased with the final result. Agenda Item #9 RE: Breakfast Fundraiser BreAnna stated the Board Members were happy with the breakfast tasting and the food served. 3 Discussion was held. BreAnna suggested buying food for 100 servings for the first breakfast. Pricing was discussed. Regarding signage, BreAnna said she will have Allen Frost from Public Works make a sign to post in front of the building. BreAnna also stated she will mention it in the Prime Times and notify the Informer, Clubs and Churches. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the breakfast fundraiser to be held the 2nd Friday each month beginning September 10th, 2021. The time will be 7 AM to 9 AM and the pricing will be 1 biscuit, 1 sausage with or without gravy is $3 and 2 biscuit, 2 sausage with or without gravy is $5. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried RE: Technology Lab BreAnna stated the counter in the Technology Lab is ADA compliant and will not be moved. BreAnna is checking on getting the counter resurfaced and is working on the Grants to complete this project. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to adjourn. Tom Davidson seconded.
