RE: NCOA Accreditation Process
BreAnna said there was a NCOA Accreditation process meeting on Tuesday. Maureen O’Leary
is now back consulting for NCOA. BreAnna stated she turned in the Accreditation in May and
they are now in the process of review. NCOA has requested BreAnna move all of the
information she submitted to a new online form. BreAnna said she will be starting this process.
RE: Channel 7 Exercise Program
Diane Schmitt questioned why the Channel 7 exercise program was not airing as of October 12th.
BreAnna said she will check into the problem and get it resolved.
RE: YouTube Exercise Videos
Diane Schmitt asked about the exercise classes on YouTube. Richard Montano Operations
Manager for the City of Derby said to use YouTube would require a Google account be set up
and this was not advisable. BreAnna said that the web would be a possibility for these videos as
well as the ones the senior center already has.
RE: Joseph Santiago
BreAnna said a new instructor Joseph Santiago will start on November 5th. Joseph will teach a
class called Cardio Blast which will replace the Friday Cardio Core and More class. BreAnna
also said starting the first of the year on Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:00 PM and Friday at
8:10 AM an evidence-based class called Enhanced Fitness will start.
RE: Nordic Walking
BreAnna said Joseph Santiago is also working on finding a new Nordic Walking instructor.

RE: Can We Talk
BreAnna let the Board know Can We Talk has been canceled due to low sign up. Discussion
was held and it was suggested to market it better sending it to Active Age, email the local clubs
and be more descriptive in the Prime Times Newsletter.
RE: Food Pantry
Janice Neagle said Derby needs a food pantry. Discussion was held. It was mentioned that
several churches in Derby have pantry meals. The churches are Woodlawn Methodist Church,
Calvary Baptist Church and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. BreAnna mentioned there is a food
pantry in Oaklawn and said this is a topic that will need more research.

RE: Advisory Board Fund Report September 2021.
Diane Schmitt gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report September 2021. Diane
reported there was $593.50 in revenue and $1,108.48 in expenses for a total balance $6,204.76.
MOTION: Janice Neagle moved the Advisory Board Fund Report for September 2021 be
approved: Tom Davidson seconded.
VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried

RE: Approve September 8, 2021 Minutes.
MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to approve the September 8, 2021 minutes. Dixie
Chapman seconded.

RE: Approve September 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report
BreAnna said the Derby Dash report was not a correct report. BreAnna suggested she present
the September report with the October report at the November Advisory Board meeting.
MOTION: Diane Schmitt made a motion to table the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for
August 2021 until the November Advisory Board meeting. Janice Neagle seconded.
VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried

RE: Suggestion Cards
Biggest Loser Program - BreAnna read the suggestion cards. One of the suggestions was for a
Biggest Loser Program to be offered. Discussion was held.
Trips – A couple patrons want more trips and even local trips. Dixie Chapman provided a listing
of local trips to theaters in the area. BreAnna said she would pass it along to Amy Bruso the
Activity Coordinator.
Cleaning the floors and fixing the door- Another suggestion was to do a better job cleaning the
floors around the edge of the classroom and other the other rooms. Also, to fix the weather
stripping under the Austin Room door. Discussion was held and Kiel Mangus asked BreAnna to
submit a Facility Maintenance request to take care of this.
Cleaning the windows – The last suggestion was asking if the windows in the Game room could
be cleaned. Kiel stated this was not in the Air Capital Cleaning contract and that is done
periodically.

RE: Projects
Outdoor Sitting Area - BreAnna stated she has met with a contractor on putting a door in the
window area of the Game Room and a patio off that door. This would be an outdoor sitting area
for seniors. The first estimate was going to be around $13k. BreAnna said she will be
submitting a grant for this project.
Technology Lab – BreAnna said she is still working on the funding of the Technology Lab.
Horseshoe Pit – Dixie Chapman asked if there was a possibility of getting a bench to sit on for
the horseshoe players. BreAnna said this was a good idea and she would look into it. Jim
Burgess said it would be nice to send Public Works a thank you for the nice job they did
installing the horseshoe pit. BreAnna said this was a good idea.

RE: Senior Garden
BreAnna stated Baker Fence Co. has completed the fence. There was a check presentation at the
City Council meeting October 12th for the donations made for the fence. The donations were
from the Community Foundation and Omega Psi Phi Inc. Mu Nu Nu Chapter.

FE: Advisory Board Biscuit & Gravy Fundraiser

BreAnna presented the board the report for the September and October Biscuit & Gravy
Breakfast. The profit after expenses is $202.87.
RE: “50th Celebration” T-Shirts
BreAnna presented the board the profit report for T-shirt sales including the purchase price of
the shirts. Shirt sales through October 13th after the expense totals -$50.00.

RE: Sedgwick County Funding
Jim Burgess stated the Sedgwick County Commission approved the $500k to be issued in Grants
to applicants. He encouraged Grants be written for any projects the Derby Senior Center needs
funding on. BreAnna stated she is working on the Grants.

RE: Volunteer Reception
BreAnna let the Board know the Volunteer Reception is coming up in December and she asked
their opinion on how this year should be handled. Discussion was held and it was decided to
have a meal and small token gift. BreAnna said she will invite Joni Link’s Tap Connection and
also the Joy of Singing to perform.

RE: 5 – 10 Year Forecast
BreAnna asked the Board for their input on a 5 – 10-year forecast.
DSC Extended Hours - Janice Neagle made the suggestion that the senior center remain open
evenings and Saturday for additional activities and trips. Discussion was held.
Technology Help - Dixie Chapman asked if there was any way to team up with Derby High
School and have students come help the seniors with their devices. Dixie said this could help the
students with their community service hours while helping the seniors.
New Facility – Janice Neagle asked if there would be any possibility of getting a whole new
facility? She said the senior center could use additional space.
BreAnna asked the Board to continue thinking about this topic and to bring any new ideas they
may come up with.

RE: Angel Tree
BreAnna explained the Angel Tree to the Board. She said this is a place where seniors in need
can anonymously ask for items they need. People take the Angels off the tree and purchase the
items.
Dixie Chapman also suggested meal vouchers.

MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion to adjourn. Janice Neagle seconded.
VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried
Meeting adjourned at 10:39 AM.
Information: The next Advisory Board meeting is Wednesday, November 10, 2021 9:15 AM,
in the Conference Room immediately following the Nutrition Center Council meeting.
