APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY November 10, 2021 9:11 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER DIXIE CHAPMAN – VICE CHAIRMAN ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIRMAN TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY- ABSENT MARSHA VOLZ JANICE NEAGLE CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: My ID’s BreAnna explained that PD delivered the cards for the My ID program. These were for seniors that signed up for the cards. Once they get the cards, they need to contact the Police Department if they need set up assistance. Any additional cards can be signed up for at DSC. These cards are for emergency personnel use. RE: City Manager Kathy Sexton Retirement BreAnna stated that the Board members should have received an email invitation to City Manager Kathy Sexton’s Retirement. This will be held on December 8th, 5:30 PM at the Dinosaur Park. RE: Channel 7 Exercise Class BreAnna said the reason the exercise class was not on Channel 7 was due to a power outage and this created the problem with airing. RE: DSC Trips BreAnna said she and Amy Bruso the Activity Coordinator are working on trips local and distanced to see plays. She also said in the spring they are looking into a trip to Nicodemus. Discussion was held. RE: Channel 8 Program Jim Burgess stated he saw BreAnna and Dixie Chapman on Channel 8, regarding the program they did on the Derby Senior Center. Jim stated it was a great program and was well done. This will air again on Friday November 19th. 1 RE: Department on Aging Funding BreAnna asked Jim Burgess if he heard anything about the additional Department on Aging funding. Jim said that Commissioner Jim Howell is checking on this and there should be more information in the next couple weeks. RE: National Accreditation Jim Burgess asked about the National Accreditation process and how it was coming along. BreAnna said she would be starting the 2nd phase soon. BreAnna said the completion deadline is May of 2022. RE: WSU Instructor Diane Schmitt told BreAnna that the WSU Instructor did not show up for their class on Tuesday morning. She didn’t call either. Diane said the other Instructor said he would cover if he knew ahead of time. BreAnna said she will check into this. RE: “Enhanced Fitness Class” BreAnna said this class is due to start in January 2022 as an evidence-based class and December 2021 as a Beta class. She said the classes will be on Fridays until the Enhanced Fitness class begins. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report October 2021. Diane Schmitt gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report October 2021. Diane reported there was $1539. in revenue and $242.08 in expenses for a total balance $7,501.68. MOTION: Jim Burgess moved the Advisory Board Fund Report for October 2021 be approved: Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve October 13, 2021 Minutes. MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion to approve the October 13, 2021 minutes. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried 2 Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve October 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the Derby Dash Report and stated there were no scholarships used for non-senior riders and the balance remains the same at $131. The scholarships used on senior riders was $232 leaving a balance of $960. MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to table the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for October 2021. Marsha Volz seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Suggestion Cards BreAnna read the suggestion cards and discussion was held. Agenda Item #6 RE: Projects Outdoor Sitting Area - BreAnna stated this would be an outdoor sitting area for seniors. The first estimate was going to be around $13k. BreAnna said she will be submitting a grant for this project. Technology Lab – BreAnna said she is still working on funding for the Technology Lab. Agenda Item #7 RE: Senior Garden BreAnna passed out Thank You cards for the Board to sign, thanking the volunteers who helped with the Senior Center Garden project. BreAnna said this was success and there were 18 raised planter boxes built and a couple of compost bin areas. Agenda Item #8 FE: Advisory Board Biscuit & Gravy Fundraiser BreAnna said there was no report for the November since it had not happened yet. BreAnna said it will be presented at the December Board meeting. BreAnna asked the Board to arrive at 6:00 AM to help with the breakfast. 3 RE: “50th Celebration” T-Shirts BreAnna presented the board the profit report for T-shirt sales including the purchase price of the shirts. Shirt sales through November 10th after the expense totals -$2.60. RE: Advisory Board Funds BreAnna gave the Board and expense and revenue spread sheet to show the Board fund. Discussion was held and it was decided more information was needed so the Board requested a spread sheet for two years back at the next Board meeting. They said the city balance sheet is hard to read. RE: Fundraising Letter BreAnna asked the Board if they wanted to send out a Fundraising letter soon. The last one was sent out in 2020 so the Board decided to wait until January 2022 Agenda Item #9 RE: Grants BreAnna said she is waiting to hear back on the grants she has applied for. BreAnna also said she spoke to a few foundations for additional grants. Agenda Item #10 RE: Volunteer Reception BreAnna let the Board know the Volunteer Reception is coming up in December 16th at Madison Avenue Central Park. BreAnna said Joni Link’s Tap Connection and also the Joy of Singing will perform. Agenda Item #11 RE: 5 – 10 Year Forecast This was tabled until next month’s meeting. Agenda Item #12 RE: Angel Tree BreAnna explained the Angel Tree to the Board. BreAnna said this went over very well last year and sign-ups will be November 30th through December 10th with deliveries on December 17th. 4 ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion to adjourn.
