NEW BUSINESS 2. New Design for Police Department Presentation Steven Shaw, Deputy Chief of Police, gave a brief presentation on the upcoming remodel of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department. 3. Projection of Cost for Specialized Team Steven Shaw, Deputy Chief of Police, explained the projected cost for starting up a specialized team. 4. Code Abatement Process Christina Newsom, Compliance Manager, gave a presentation explaining various Code Compliance procedures for the abatement process and responded questions. 5. Traffic Congestion Commissioner Lavy expressed his concerns regarding traffic congestion on Palm Drive. Daniel Porras, Assistant City Manager, explained certain precautions and improvements the City is taking regarding the issue. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS: 6. The property owner successfully completed the demolition of an accessory structure that was an attractive nuisance. • Code Compliance Officer Linda Human conducted a inspection in tandem with Riverside County Environmental Health Department of the Sahara Hotel and surrounding properties. The inspection resulted in the County issuing an infraction and the City issuing a red tag. The property is deemed unsafe to occupy until life safety violations are corrected. • Compliance Manager Newsom is currently working with the City’s new Building Official to streamline joint inspections and joint inspection reports. We will be utilizing the City’s online permitting software to request Building inspections in real-time, electronically. We will also capture building violations and generate building reports internally within a Code Compliance case. This process will assist with substandard or red-tagged properties and allow for a more efficiently framed case when escalating enforcements actions to a hearing or court proceedings. 1 Item Number: 2.
