Borough of Doylestown Shade Tree Commission MINUTES Tuesday, October 14, 2025. 6:30 P.M. Commission members in attendance included Lisa Moscherosch, Kayvon Tabatabai, Jean Weston, and Baldev Lamba. Also present were Borough Arborist Bob McMullin, Grant Rowe, Sustainability Coordinator, and Director of Public Works, Dave Burger. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Lisa Moscherosch at 6:30pm Approval of Minutes: The September 2025 minutes were approved. (Weston/Lamba) Subdivision/Land Development: None 1. 157 W. Ashland Street – Mike Steigerwald, Property Owner. The applicant was in attendance. The Commission recommended approval of the permit. (Tabatabai/Lamba) 2. 339 Doyle Street – Michael & Marlene Krams, Property Owners. The permit was previously recommended for denial. The homeowners were not in attendance but previously stated that they intended to follow the recommendations of the Commission and prune their tree. 3. 122 E. Ashland Street – Jean & David Weston, Property Owners. The Commission recommended approval of the permit. (Lamba/Tabatabai). Weston abstained from the vote. 4. 201 Belmont Avenue – Andrew & Kathleen Krick, Property Owners. The Commission recommended approval of the permit. (Lamba/Tabatabai) 5. 305 Linden Avenue – Cheryl & Bill Jerome, Property Owners. The applicants were in attendance. The Commission recommended approval of the permit, with the recommendation to replace the tree with a Sugar Maple. (Moscherosch/Weston) 6. 25 W. Court Street – Linda Klein, Property Owner. The application was withdrawn. The Commission recommended pruning the tree. However, the owners plan to remove the tree due to deadline passing. 7. 6 S. West Street – Melquiades DeJesus, Property Owner. The Commission recommended approval of the permit, contingent upon receiving a letter from the neighboring property owner since the trees are along the property line. (Tabatabai/Lamba) 8. 77 Decatur Street – Mike Dalton, Property Owner. The applicant was in attendance. The Commission recommended approval, with consideration for replanting. (Moscherosch/Weston). Lamba abstained from the vote. 9. 231 Hillcrest Drive – Nicholas Mostovych, Property Owner. The applicant was in attendance. The Commission recommended approval. (Weston/Lamba) 10. 29 N. Broad Street – Fred Beans, Property Owner. David McCann from ATS Tree represented the applicant. The Commission recommended denial of the permit and recommended pruning the tree. (Moscherosch/Weston) 11. 31 Golfview Road – Helen Duffner, Property Owner. David McCann from ATS Tree represented the applicant. The Commission recommended approval of the permit. (Weston/Moscherosch) 12. 228 E. Court Street – Thomas & Courtney Foster, Property Owners. The applicant was in attendance. The Commission recommended approval of the permit. (Weston/Lamba) 13. 340 Linden Avenue – Rebecca Bushnell & John Toner, Property Owners. The Commission recommended approval of the permit. (Tabatabai/Lamba) 14. 21 Meadow Lane – Erika Schmalbruch, Property Owner. The Commission recommended approval of the permit. (Tabatabai/Lamba) 15. 45 Pearl Drive – Christina Abbott, Property Owner. The Commission recommended denial of the permit, finding no or limited damage to the sidewalk. (Tabatabai/Lamba) Old/New Business: Arbor Day Tree List: Jean expressed concern about previous Arbor Day tree handouts, noting that residents were not aware of the available tree options. She made a motion to have printed materials with photos and descriptions available to help residents make informed selections. Grant offered to provide these photos. The Commission approved the following tree species to be distributed at the next Arbor Day event: Cornus florida (Flowering Dogwood), Aronia arbutifolia (Red Chokeberry), Nyssa sylvatica (Black Gum), Cercis canadensis (Eastern Redbud), and Maples (sugar maple). Grant will source and order the trees well in advance to ensure timely delivery. (Weston/Tabatabai) Street Tree Program: A letter will be prepared and sent to residents who may benefit from new street trees. The letter will include instructions for next steps, allowing the Commission to visit sites and recommend appropriate tree species. The following trees were approved for the next phase of the Street Tree Planting Program: (Weston/Tabatabai) List of Street Trees Red Maple – Autumn Blaze Swamp White Oak Sycamore – Exclamation Large American Elm – Princeton Trees Red Maple – Red Sunset, October Glory, Green Mountain, Legacy Honey Locust – Skyline Sweetgum – Seedless Slender Silhouette Linden – American Sentry, Medium Redmond Trees Flowering Dogwood – Appalachian Snow Flowering Dogwood – Cherokee Small Princess Trees New Suggestions Black Gum – Afterburner Willow Oak (Quercus phellos) Reports: 1.
