Minutes of Farmers Market Meeting

I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

Market Manager: Laurel Robertson
Chair Gouri Johannsen called meeting to order at 10:22 and conducted roll call.
Board members present: Gouri Johannsen, Charissa Giles, Diana Black, Marianne
Simmons, Teresa Strube, Market Manager Laurel Robertson. Absent: Aimee
Mick, Claudia Oney, and Gary Gilstrap. It was noted that Aimee sent a letter of
resignation from the Board.
II. PRESENTATION BY CITIZENS
Floor open to discussion on any subject. No action may be taken by law. Citizens
wishing to speak shall do so after being recognized by the Chair. The Chair may
establish a time limit on each citizen wishing to speak.
No speakers.
III. MINUTES
Reviewed minutes for March 23, 2017 meeting; Marianne moved to approve the
minutes with no changes; Charissa seconded. VOTE: all in favor, motion passed.
Reviewed minutes for April 7, 2017 special-called meeting; Marianne moved to
approve the minutes with the only change being that Aimee Mick is removed from
roll call. Gouri seconded. VOTE: all in favor, motion passed.
IV. REPORTS
There was no report to review from Market Manager.
Discussion regarding what seemed like inconsistent numbers on Income Statement
for Market Manager Laurel Robertson’s income, and revenues from booth and
promotional fees. Laurel will research and we will discuss further next meeting.
V. MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
Marianne reported on marketing projects, most current of which are efforts at the
market to promote:
the hazardous waste collection event at the DS Recycling Center on April
29, 2017—asking seniors to continue to help;
the DS Healthy Parks Healthy People activities for their event at the
Triangle on May 3, 2017—creating a “scavenger hunt” activity at market;
and Tomato Roundup—gathered members for the committee.
VI. MARKET VENUE
Laurel reported on a couple issues regarding market parking. No action taken.
VII. SPONSORSHIPS COMMITTEE
Discussed sponsor activity. No action taken.
VIII. RULES AND REGULATIONS COMMITTEE
Discussion regarding Rules and Regulations changes and additions. Marianne and
Gouri will perform final editing and submit to CODS for review.
IV. OTHER BUSINESS
Gouri motioned to allow vendor to sell gulf shrimp at market; Charissa seconded.
VOTE: all in favor, motion passed.
Discussed Brown Insurance Co application.
Discussed Protect Our Water application.
Market hours tabled.
Market fee structure and policies tabled.
Market Manager’s hours and pay discussion tabled.
Musician pay tabled.
Some vendor inspections disbursed to Board members.
Gouri moved to adjourn meeting at 12:55 pm; Charissa seconded. VOTE: all in
favor, motion passed.
