Founders Day Commission Meeting Minutes
January 14, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.
A Regular Meeting of the Founders Day Commission of Dripping Springs, Texas was held Monday, January
14, 2019 beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers located at City Hall, 511 Mercer Street, Dripping
Springs, Texas.
I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
Commission Members present were:
Brenda Medcalf, Chair
Stephanie Holtzendorf, Secretary
Brian Daniel
Michael Monaghan
Paul Sanchez
Brad Thomas
Darrel Debish
Brian Varnell
Commission Members absent were:
Jake Adams, Vice Chair
Sharon Goss

City Staff/Appointed Officials present were:
Mariana Espinoza, Parks & Community Services Director
With a quorum of the Commission present, Chair Medcalf called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
II. MINUTES
A. Discuss and Consider Approval of the Regular Meeting Minutes of December 10, 2018
A motion was made by Commissioner Monaghan to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes
of December 10, 2018. Commissioner Sanchez seconded the motion which carried
unanimously 8 to 0.
III. BUSINESS
A. Discussion and consider approval of the 2019 Founders Day Festival Parade Theme
The Commission, via unanimous consent, selected “Destination Drippin’,” as the 2019
Founders Day Festival Parade Theme.
IV. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
The following updates relate to the administration of the 2019 Founders Day Festival. No action to
be taken.
A. Site Plan

• If stage has to be moved several issues will need to be addressed. Parking, merchants,
handicap, security and barricades.
• Alternative sights
o Parking lot next to Hudson’s
o Move from current location out into the street – Old Fitzhugh
• Brenda will contact owner of complex at Spring Bluff to see if we can use parking lot.
• Hudson’s parking lot, if used, would require a generator.
B. Entertainment
Brad Thomas
• Brad would like a different 2nd stage instead of Buddy’s trailer because there needs to
be a way for people to get on and off the stage.
• Brad is talking with the company that provides the main stage to see if they have one
smaller that we could use as second stage. Brad will get a proposal on this.
C. Arts & Crafts
Michael Monaghan
• Application is on the website.
D. Parade
Brenda Medcalf and Stephanie Holtzendorf
• Parade theme decided (see Item A).
• March 29th will be deadline for submitting entries.
• April 10 will be the parade meeting.
E. Publicity – no report given

F. Sponsorship and Underwriting

• Sponsorship form is on the website
G. Sanitation

• J-Bar is working on a bid and should be received next week.
H. Security
Darrell Debish and Brenda Medcalf
• Security meeting needs to be set for the end of February.
I. Traffic and Parking

• Calling Viking Fence to get a bid on the fencing for the parade
J. Volunteers
• Need to make sure tickets for carnival can be obtained to give to boys for Burke Center
for volunteering with the orange fencing.

A. Founders Day Commission: Need to add January 28, 2019 at 6:30 pm
February 11, 2019 - Regular Meeting 6:30 p.m.
February 25, 2019 - Regular Meeting 6:30 p.m.

February 19, 2018 - Regular Meeting 6:00 p.m.
VI. ADJOURN
A motion was made by Commissioner Thomas to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Varnell
seconded the motion which carried unanimously 8 to 0.
This regular meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
