Founders Day Commission Meeting Minutes
February 11, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.
A Regular Meeting of the Founders Day Commission of Dripping Springs, Texas was held Monday,
February 11, 2019 beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Council Chambers located at City Hall, 511 Mercer Street,
Dripping Springs, Texas.
I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

II. MINUTES
A. Discuss and Consider Approval of the Regular Meeting Minutes of January 14, 2019.
Minutes reviewed by commissioners.
Brad made a motion to accept the minutes. Darrell seconded. Minutes accepted.
B. Discuss and Consider Approval of the Regular Meeting Minutes of January 28, 2019.
Minutes reviewed by commissioners.
Brad made a motion to accept the minutes. Brian Daniel seconded. Minutes accepted.
III. BUSINESS
A. Discuss and consider recommended action regarding a Liability and Sponsorship
Agreement between the City of Dripping Springs and Dripping Springs Outfitters
LLC for the 2019 Founders Day Festival.
• Mayor Purcell spoke to the commission regarding the use of the parking lot owned
by Dripping Springs Outfitters. He suggested that the commission develop an in-
kind sponsor level that could be presented to DSO that could be used for other
businesses as well. It would not be the same as the top sponsor level. He
suggested perhaps a tent sponsor with the big tent that is located in that parking lot.

• The parking lot will be needed from noon on Thursday until midnight on Sunday
during the 2019 Founders Day Festival.
• Brad made a motion to off DSO an in-kind sponsorship in which DSO will be
allowed to display a banner (10’ x 2’) on the tent, receive recognition on website,
poster, banner located on small stage and during announcements from the main
stage during the festival. Mike seconded. Motion passed. Ayes: 10, Nays: 0
Abstentions/Recusal: 0.
• Mariana will present this to Mayor Purcell and he will see that the offer is given to
DSO.
IV. STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
The following updates relate to the administration of the 2019 Founders Day Festival. No action to
be taken.
A. Site Plan
Michael Monaghan and Brenda Medcalf
• Will need to get cable ramps to go over any extension cords that cross walkways and
streets.
• Changes may be made to the site plan once we receive answer from DSO regarding
the parking lot use.
B. Entertainment
Brad Thomas
• There will be a real stage for the second stage.
• It can be set up in 30 – 45 minutes.
• Heavy duty extension cords will be needed.
• Test to go over stage will be needed.
• Parking passes will be given to bands and will need to be different from others that
will be allowed to go in the gate located at Old Fitzhugh.
• People’s Choice will play Friday night. Rest of the line-up has not been finalized.
C. Arts & Crafts

• 48 booths sold.
D. Parade
Brenda Medcalf and Stephanie Holtzendorf
• 24 entries received.
. Publicity
Bonnie Gonzalez
• Jake reported that he spoke with Kathy Richardson (Kathy B Designs) regarding the
logo for Founders Day. She presented Jake with 5 logo designs.

• The commission discussed and decided on Logo # 1 with a few changes.
• The parade application needs to be moved from the Entertainment tab on the website
to a parade tab. People are calling in that they cannot find the application.
• Need more information going out on Facebook.
• A video taken at last year’s festival will be available to put on the website.
F. Sponsorship and Underwriting

• Behind in sponsorships.
• Locktite may not come in at the amount they did last year.
G. Sanitation
Paul Sanchez and Brian Daniel
• Street sweeper has been set up for Founders Day.
• Waste Connections will try the recycling again.
• J-Bar increased their price by 19% and Paul is negotiating with them to get the
proposed price reduced.
• Mules need to be rented.

H. Security
Darrell Debish and Brenda Medcalf
• Bike racks will be along both sides of one lane at the administration building and
down Mercer Street.
• 7 am pickup needs to be changed to pick up at the end of the parade.
• 2 security officers will cost $1,500. Brenda will contact Hays County to see if they
would be less cost.
