Meeting Minutes: June 1, 2021
Councilor Gomez called the meeting to order at 6:04pm.

Members Present: Chair Homar Gomez, Councilor Lindsey Rothschild and Councilor
Salem Derby
Also in Attendance: Mayor LaChapelle, Chief Alberti, Nicole Hendricks, Megan Faller,
Loren Davine, Shelby Lee, Liz Perry, Rebecca Passa, Laura Cunha, Margaret Kierstein,
Mark Popeilarczyk, Brenda Therrien, Martin Fedor, Eli Damon, Carolyn Cushing, Ashley
Alexander, Jean Frances, Gaby Stevenson, Rick Rogalski, Ryan, Lisa, Kyle Gribi,
Desiree Gribi, Chad Alexander, Pat Brough, Anthony
Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Councilor Derby and seconded by
Councilor Rothschild; it was unanimously voted to approve the minutes of 4/26/2021
and 5/6/2021.
Public Speak Time:
➢ Megan Faller (Precinct 2) read a statement from a community member who has
stopped repeatedly by police officers in Easthampton and beyond
➢ Loren Davine (147 West Street, Precinct 1) wants to ensure that there is broad
representation and spoke in support of the Easthampton police
➢ Liz Perry (Precinct 3) Spoke regarding the Police survey questions that
expressed negative opinions about AKINE
➢ Shelby Lee (14 Ward Ave) Asked a question about the data pertaining to how
many service calls are documented by the EPD
➢ Martin Fedor (Easthampton resident) concerned with these meetings, stated that
we’re copying Northampton
Continuing Business:
Review to begin of the Mayor’s Pledge to Reimagine Policing
● Professor Nicole Hendricks introduced Recommendation 04. Engage in
intentional, regular, communication and collaboration with the community to
understand and co-define safety needs and develop responses
The following people participated in a discussion about Recommendation 04:
Julie Thomas (Precinct 4), Shelby Lee (14 Ward Street), Carolyn Cushing
(Precinct 4), Professor Hendricks, Chief Alberti, Councilor Rothschild, Councilor
Derby, Councilor Gomez
● Professor Nicole Hendricks introduced Recommendation 05. Examine Police
Culture and Training
The following people participated in a discussion about Recommendation 05: Liz
Perry (Precinct 3), Donovan Lee (Precinct 4), Professor Hendricks, Chief Alberti
● Professor Nicole Hendricks introduced Recommendation 06. Educate and inform
the Easthampton community about the revised use of force policy
The following people participated in a discussion about Recommendation 06:
Liz Perry (Precinct 3), Chief Alberti, Donovan Lee (Precinct 4)
● Councilor Gomez invited State Rep and State Senator to our next meeting to
inform us about the state bill
Next regular meeting: July 6, 2021 at 7pm
A motion was made by Councilor Derby and seconded by Councilor Rothschild; it was
unanimously voted that this meeting adjourn.
