Public Safety Committee Minutes February 27, 2024 Members present: Councilor Zaret, Councilor Riley, Councilor Gomez Members absent: Also in Attendance: Councilor Tirrell, Chief Norris Meeting called to order by Councilor Zaret at 6:00 pm 1. Public Speak Time: 2. Approval of the meeting notes: No meeting minutes to approve. This is the first official meeting of the term. 3. Public Safety Quarterly Report: a. Fire Department Chief Norris gave a quarterly overview of the Fire Department. Councilors engaged in a series of Q&As. Topics included:  Insurance Service Organization Report  Annual Ambulance Inspection  Grants  Budget  Personnel Update; and  Department Programs 4. Continuing Business: a. Amendments to the Traffic Rules & Orders, Appendix A:  Amendments to Sec. 1-25 “Parking prohibited on certain streets at all times.”  Changes to amounts charged for parking violations. Councilors Tirrell and Gomez gave an overview of changing the parking violations for illegal parking from $20 to $50, and a violation for parking in a handicap spot without documentation will be increased from $50 to $200. These changes are meant to be a deterrent and ensure people with mobility issues are guaranteed access to parking. The Committee will meet with representation from the Police Department at the next meeting before making a final motion to send the rule change to the full City Council. Next regular meeting is undetermined at this time. Councilor Riley made motion to adjourn, Councilor Gomez seconded. Vote: 3-0.
